My '84 HUTCH TRICKSTAR BUILD THREAD

So I have had this '84 Trickstar for a few years now and didn't want to build another, though Bitchin... Candy Blue, Red, Black, or Chrome build...As there are several out there.
So When I got this project it was already sandblasted, I Did Not Strip The Original Finish. smile
So I started with a basic Automotive Primer (2 Coats in Grey)...Then A good wide spray fan tip Gloss Black (2 Coats) Then Acrylic Neon Colors Splatter Painted On with a Medium Artist Paint Brush...
Next I will finish off the frame and bars next...
As you know Rattle can paint is not very durable...But that doesn't matter because it's all going to be sealed in 4 Coats of Super High Gloss Diamond Automotive Clearcoat...
For Maximum Durability and Shine.

I'm stoked so far with results of the forks...smile
What do you guys think?

Reminds of the Kuwie back in the mid 80's that came with that same type of paint job!

Looks good.

Re: My '84 HUTCH TRICKSTAR BUILD THREAD

I love this, so freakin RAD! cool

What Was your technique? Did you actually do brush strokes for the lines or is it a mix of drizzle and splatter?

Been wanting to do a paint scheme like this for awhile, your technique worked amazingly well, one of the best jobs I've seen! Killer work!

Thanks Jeff...
No Drizzle, I just take the cap off of Neon bottle and dip the end of the brush into the bottle and hold the steer tube with my left hand making sure to move the part arround alot so the Slinging Pattern goes in all different directions...Dip - Sling the brush at the part a couple times... Then Repeat until you like what you see. big_smile
Remember if you choose to use multiple colors like i did don't put to much on with each color... Make sure you leave enough space for all of the colors, and just fill in the gaps the best you can.

And to speed up the process after each color was applied I use my wife's blow dryer to dry the color quickly so I could immediately apply the next color...and so on.
You should do this because you don't want the wet neon colors to merge together, you want them to lay on top of each other.

Hopefully this will help you guys out if you wanna give it a try. smile
And if you do it please post you progress pics here as well.
Bob.
