2007 Kuwahara KZ-1R

I bought this Kuwahara anniversary frame & forks a few months ago with the intention of building an everyday ride. Parts used include OGK grips & tuffs, sugino cranks, elina seat & other O.S Japanese components. I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out, but might change to freewheel later on. It's No.61 of the limited edition, enjoy!

Re: 2007 Kuwahara KZ-1R

Hi,

Very nice!smile

I'm from the UK and have just purchased one of these F&F. Could you help me, I know you have used CW type Straight Handlerbars, what is the rise and width of these bars. I too would need a straight bar as I have a padset for this. Ideally I would like the type that are on the Laserlites, with the Pad bar slightly lower. But what are they? Do you know of any alternatives I could use, as I dont want to use anything that would look out of place, too big or small.hmm

For any one wanting one of these F&F in the USA or Australia where they have sold out. Check out some of the main UK internet dealers there is about half a dozen left. Just type Kuwahara Limited Edition into your search engine for the UK and it will list a few shops. Prices are about £170 plus delivery.smile

Kind Regards

Re: 2007 Kuwahara KZ-1R

G'day BMX1973,
Thanxs for ur interest. The bars measure 26" wide and the rise is 8", if u have a look now on ebay, there's a set on there with a buy it now price & they're Japanese too!

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NOS-WIN-CW-STYLE … dZViewItem

I was going to put some V Bars on mine, but I like these cause they r wider and the right height for me. So can u tell me if they really made 250 of these worldwide? Is yours stamped with a number under the frame. A friend of mine is also doing one up he has number ten after mine. Good luck with ur build, you will be very happy, just try using old school parts where possible, keep that O.S feeling wink

Re: 2007 Kuwahara KZ-1R

Hi Mate, Thanks for info.
Yes frames are stamped KZ-1R-001 to KZ-1R-250 on Bottom Bracket.
I've got Black frame No21 and brother has Chrome frame No93.
The few shops advertising them over here confirmed only 250 Worldwide.
UK did not get these until April/May 08 but only received mine in August.
I am trying to collect parts at moment. Do you know where I can get replica MX1000 brakes from. Also 170mm 1 piece chrome plated crank as I've got a Tange 24 tpi Chrome Plated Bottom Bracket BB-22OST 24T .
I did buy a couple of replica padset from wwwretrospectbmx.com which were fantastic quality.
I'll keep you posted.
Kind regards

Re: 2007 Kuwahara KZ-1R

Hi again BMX1973,
Thanxs for that, that's very useful info. I'm unsure how many of these frames & forks arrived in OZ, but last check, they r all snapped up now. Have u seen the ebay seller (Rockchick_1) she has lots of O.S parts, perhaps she may have the brakes ur after, just ask, below is her auction for the WIN/CW Bars, u may as well get it from her as she is in the UK.

Keep us posted on ur build, welcome to the Kuwah club, big_smile

Re: 2007 Kuwahara KZ-1R

I bought my frame in April 2009. number 87

I am using yours as an example of how I want mine to look.

I had an original Kuwahara in 85 and when I saw the frame, I wanted to re-live my youth and build the bike I used to have but with the bits I could never have/afford like the tuffs!
