It's a MTB with BMX Bars...

....On facebook someone posted a new Chrome GT Pro Performer, and I'd love to hear more about it.

Well said.  That seems to be the trend here lately.

Personally I own 2 Big Rippers & 3 29" MTB's.  Different strokes for different folks.

Re: 2018 GT Pro Performer 29" BMX Bike ?! too big?

how many members here that own 29 tire BMX ride them like a BMX? IE hit the dirt jump trails ,go to the  BMX race track, hit up the skate park to  shred it, or bust out some flatland freestyle. or do you just cruise from home to the local  bars on them?.

Ill pass,  I started riding 20" again because my mountain bikes just never felt right, even after 20 years on them.

Re: 2018 GT Pro Performer 29" BMX Bike ?! too big?

That GT looks out of proportion. I bought a big Ripper a few years back and it rides smooth great cruiser it fits me better then my old school 26" three bar but I'm 48 and 6'4" and a little heavy these days so cruising is all I do now.

Re: 2018 GT Pro Performer 29" BMX Bike ?! too big?

29"ers generally have a lot of bottom bracket "drop," meaning that the bb is well below axle level.

If you made a 29"er with the bb at or near axle level, it would ride more similarly to a BMX cruiser (many 24" BMX have the bb close to axle level).

This Doberman custom 29er DJ MTB has a higher bb than other 29ers.

I think a BMX company could make a 29er with snappy handling.

Re: 2018 GT Pro Performer 29" BMX Bike ?! too big?

26" is my sweet spot for a fast cruiser. I can just bunny hop it up a curb (kinda chubby) and its nimble enough to ride like a bmx bike if I find a fun spot. Rode a Big Ripper and it was fun to ride, but my 5'9" build just fits a 26" better. You know GT wants in on 29er sales and issuing it a a Performer just makes sense. I still have never seen a 26" Performer in person.

Re: 2018 GT Pro Performer 29" BMX Bike ?! too big?

I am in LOVE with the bike.  Colors, graphocs, parts, etc. and am not getting one because it's 29".

24" would have been great.  26" I could deal with.  29" no way.  It'll look cool but won't be fun!

Re: 2018 GT Pro Performer 29" BMX Bike ?! too big?

My MTB looked like that bike Gary.

Everything about it felt clumsy. Steering was very heavy too and getting it in and out of the cottage drove me nuts.

Riding through mud and water made it really difficult to steer.

I'm not ragging on any one here but unless we live in a world of communism these days man is allowed an opinion.

Great for cruising the neighborhood, but I'm not sure what else I'd use it for.

If the tyres were 60PSI plus and street like it would be a much better experience. But the taller a bike becomes and the bigger the wheels the more cumbersome it becomes. I dread to think what they are like in the air.

It's just a fad IMO.

lol

I know they're making smaller bikes, but not with these same colors, graphics, etc.

I also know it's meant to be a neighborhood cruiser, but good bunnyhops, biffs and maneuverability are still needed!  cool

Just bring back the original spec this is too big and lost the nostalgic look and feel. Looks confused between a road bike and bmx:(

I'm too old for this.
