Re: 1980 Mongoose Supergoose

Thanks for the comments. This is the first of four planned "Old School" builds. I'm also working on a 79 Decoster, a 78 Nickle Mongoose, and a 77 Mongoose Motomag shorty. This bike has drained the funds for now, but I plan on getting the 78 running pretty soon. It will be a rider for sure...

Thanks again.

Re: 1980 Mongoose Supergoose

very sweet, i love the original super's. you sound like a goose fan wink

when i see a mongoose at walmart, i try and picture the metal being used to make something more useful, like a frying pan, or maybe some clothes hangers...oh well...its out of my hands.

my bikes are tri-moly. that means i have 3 times more chromo than you..haha

Nice build!! Can`t wait to see the shorty. Ya gonna put Motomags on it? The shorts handle great but my long legs and shortys don`t mix too well...lol. big_smile

Re: 1980 Mongoose Supergoose

Yeah lovethegoose, I rode a friend's blue mongoose around 1979 and I was hooked. The bike was pretty basic with an Ashtabula neck, black box bars, and clear grips. I also had a Supergoose in the 80's that I sold so I could buy a freakin' stereo! I have regretted that sale ever since...

Another friend had a nickle DeCoster BID in Hawaii, and the thing shined so nice. I was pretty jealous at the time. The Decoster frame I have is pretty pitted, so I am going to have it powdered pearl black. Should go nice with the NOS nickle forks I nabbed on eBay...

Re: 1980 Mongoose Supergoose

Hey lambohaha, yes I have a set of Motomags for the shorty. I'm cleaning them up and getting them ready for the build. I found a great polish for them at Lowes. The polish is for aluminum truck boxes and it works really well. I am going to use Kenda 2.35 super knobby tires on the mags. I mounted the front tire already and it looks like a motorcycle wheel!

I barely fit on the Supergoose, so I don't think I'll be riding the shorty much. Just a few circles around the driveway maybe...

Re: 1980 Mongoose Supergoose

My cousin had a shorty and I rode it once, and only once! My knees hit the bars, feet came off the peddles and knees then hit the pavement. OOOOWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEE...(sniff sniff) Lost a lotta skin right there. Never rode it again.

Re: 1980 Mongoose Supergoose

Lambohaha,

Knees hitting the bars (or the stem) really sucks!

I once had a chain pop off while I was going full speed down the middle of the street. I totally lost my balance and ripped most of the skin off my big toe. Damn, that was a bloody mess!

The shorty won't be getting a lot of miles on it, for sure!

Whoever originally owned this bad boy was the envy of every kid on his block. I'm still jealous...
