1985 Profile Racing Champ Pro

My childhood bike! I bought the frame and fork from my best friend around 1988 so I am the second owner. Super rare factory red anodized 130 bcd Profile spider!

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 13.0px Verdana; color: #30302b; -webkit-text-stroke: #30302b} span.s1 {font-kerning: none} I am fortunate to have kept my childhood bike all of these years, a Profile Champ! I've always loved this bike and kept it because it is so light. I knew it was a good one back in the day, and I still love it just as much today. I bought the frame and fork used from a friend around 1988 and swapped most parts off my Predator I had before it. I rode it from 1988 through 1996, then after college in 1996 I bought a mountain bike and didn't ride my BMX anymore.
After my dad died in 2013 I got nostalgic and I finally decided I would drag my old BMX bike out of the shed, clean it up and start riding it again. After this site sparked my nostalgia and my imagination, I replaced a lot more parts than I thought, but I have the bike exactly the way I would have had it back then if I had the money. Mostly, changing out the black and white parts that came off my Predator with blue anodized and chrome parts. The last two pictures are how I had it set up when I stopped riding it in 1996, and the only picture I have of it back in the day, when this picture of me working on it ran in the newspaper around 1990 smile
My parts list. All are original '80 parts and have the original finish unless otherwise noted.
My original 1985-ish Profile Champ Pro frame and fork with original chrome and decals
Original Profile pads
Profile handlebars with original chrome and decals, reissue A'me Unitron grips
Profile 3rd-gen cranks, Profile factory red anodized 130 bcd spider and Pete's Precision Products (PPP) 44t chainring
Hutch pedals
DK square corner stem
Dia Compe MX1000 brake and DC Tech 4 lever
Araya 7x rims with Bullseye hubs
DC hinged seat post clamp
GT circle stamped seat post with original decal
Kashimax Aero seat

Re: 1985 Profile Racing Champ Pro

Awesome...that article tops it off very well!

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Re: 1985 Profile Racing Champ Pro

Nice bike.... Back in the day I played with trying to start my own bicycle shop.  I called it:
" BMX Pro Shop". Alas I was too young and immature to get it going... I did sell one bike to my friend, an early 80's Profile, just like yours..

83 was the year....
