ok, I've kept this pretty quiet, because inside, I'm losing my shizzzzznit! It's taken me a few months to pay the man (and he's a righteous, stand-up guy for waiting on my slow ass..) But this is coming home to me very soon. OG Basic Bikes Big City Bastard, originally Steve Roy's bike (featured in Beer Sex & BMX) complete with Graveyard, Peregrine, Stupid forks etc. I cannot wait.

Ryan's is only the second one I've ever seen. The other is on my Seshin.

I've talked about this with a friend before. It's indeed very similar to the one I had. And I think the company is even from the same area... makes you wonder if this is just a coincidence...

Yep -- Ryan had one of the BlackSpire discs on the BCB shown above before tracking down the red Basic disc. I would imagine they're brothers from different mothers?

Re: Basic Bykes Co. -- Catchall of information regarding BBC

Sad day, friends. The '93 Small Town Hick I'm restoring (which had about four layers of paint) has been stripped of paint, in hopes that there was 'raw'-condition steel underneath. There is not. It had been media-blasted or sanded at some point prior to all the layers of paint, which means I cannot do clear-over-raw as intended. There are no weld or heat marks, no raw chromoly to speak of.

It'll require a powder / paint finish. Thoughts?

Red paint? That’d be fresh!

You can recreate the weld rainbow marks... I did it to a rider frame I had

Clear over sand blasted surface still looks cool, just not the same as clear over mill-raw tubing. Or go red, I hear its fastest.

Absolutely! I forgot it was Steve Roy's old frame. Be cool to see it like it was in Beer Sex & BMX.

Re: Basic Bykes Co. -- Catchall of information regarding BBC

Straight out of the acid dip to remove all paint. the yellowing is the residue from the acid process. As you can see, there are no weld  heat marks left, and the frame has a gritty, grainy feel to it that seems to indicate it has been sandblasted before. So -- now I'm in a moral dilemma. Do I attempt to replicate the nickel / satin finish it would originally have had, or make it resemble the dark blue as it was in Beer, Sex & BMX? (I'm sourcing powder to replicate either finish... I just haven't decided which way to go...
