Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion

I have one in white.  The welds are pretty odd in certain spaces but not uneven.  The tire edges around the tan are not straight.  The brake is crap.  But...I love it.  If you grew up in the 80s, this bike will make you smile.  The cranks and ride are really smooth.  Full Chromo for $500 with some really nice cranks, you cant beat it.  How hard are you gonna be riding a 26 anyway?  If you love GTs get it and be happy.  I ride it any chance I can.

The bike is crap.... But I love it lol

Right on.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person--though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die-- but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

No opinion on GT,  can you get an SE?

My pick would be a 24" So Cal Flyer,  aluminum frame, $100 less, confidence in their quality.

I agree - SE models seems to be high quality bikes!
But I also have two 24" mid-school-cruiser (HARO "Group 1 Si" and a S&M "Challenger").
Compared with my GT 26" Performer model 2012/13, the 26" geometry is much more comfortable to drive, particularly when I'm cruising with my family,  however having those BMX feeling wink
SE also offers 26" cr-mo models here in Germany, like the "Quadangle Looptail" or "OM Flyer" as well as the aluminum "PK Ripper Looptail".
All very beautifull bikes, but for me the design of the Performer pulls me away tongue
I also have seen that Skyway will come with a 26" Cruiser - this could also be a real beauty...but when?

or buy a Haro 26" like mine. it cruises nice and looks old school

Oh man, this bike looks amazing! big_smile

To be honest, of course I've thought about the Haro.
But there is no chance to get a complete 26" Haro for the price of the GT Performer hmm
I could get new 26" Haro F/F-sets out of UK, so I could build it up as a custom bike.

But there is deeper ground why I've exclude the Haro for me:
First I'd like to say that I like Bob very much!
I've met him the last past years at the Cologne "Jugendpark" here in Germany tongue
And amongst others he'd signed my Haro Tribute Sport F/F-set I'd like to build up the next months.
Unfortunately Haro only offers the "Master" in the 26" version, but I had the "Sport" back in 1985.
To make a long story short:
If Haro could deliver a 26" cruiser based on the "Sport" model I'ld defo place my money there wink

The tires are junk, the frame seems at least on par with others, at least the one I got is.  The welds are on par with an 86 on mine.

This is painted with a clear coat

Thanks for sharing your opinion/experience - particularly relating to the welds and the finish!
Tires are wear parts for me...easy to exchange wink

Yes, I hope it will big_smile

The only comparable supplier inside this price range for new cruisers seems to be SE-bikes, right!?
And what I've heard: Good/high quality...
Currently there are four offers in this range from SE availabe in Germany (with Cr-Mo frame):

http://www.rockmachine-germany.de/out/pictures/master/product/1/se_bikes_om_flyer_26r_retro_bmx_bike_2015_1.jpg

https://bike-alm.de/media/image/58/8d/e9/65718_0.jpg

All those color schemes are a little bit "babyish" in my eyes...or am I wrong?
Maybe they will look much better in real life...

And the aluminum frame of the also available 26" "Ripper" appears to massive/oversized in my eyes compared with the cr-mo ones:

If you live in Germany you should track down a WTP 26".  I've ridden one they ride super nice.  Well designed/made throwback looking cruiser but modern where it counts and the stock parts selection is quality.

Yeah, "WeThePeople" (WTP) is a well known trademark here in Germany!
Started here in cologne, maybe 1 hour away from me.
Really high quality complete bikes for sure.
I've bought a 18" BMX for our son this year - unfortunately summer is over hmm

The bike you suggest looks very good!
But the 2016 Avenger seems to be more a beach cruiser than a BMX tongue

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion

If you want the GT, I wouldn't wait on it.  The are pretty hard to come by in the states.  Also,  I have the 24 SE Quad in your request and its a fun bike.  I dont know how tall you are but the toptube is rather smallish.  I can only ride it standing but its nice to pull off some old school tricks on it.  Definitely feels like a 20.  The Blue Quad is a clearance item in the states and the white 2016 version is on deep discounts too.  The 2016 is nice with the included white pegs and mushroom grips.

I think, that the 24" SE is much fun, but not comfortable enough for me to cruise longer distances tongue
No secret: I'm 6'1 (about 185 cm), weight 167 lb (about 76 kg), and I know the feeling to drive a 24" BMX, because of my 24" Haro Group 1 Si24 out of '96, for example.
Compared with my foregoing 26" GT Performer out of 2012/13 there is a big difference in handling...
So, I'm pretty sure that Cruising for me means 26", but Freestyle needs 20" lol
24" is nice to look at, but for me personal "neither fish nor fowl" to drive hmm

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the SE models in question are clearance items here in Germany, too!
I've seen some offers with nice price drops here, coming from € 679,- (about $ 719,-) to € 479,- (about $ 507,-) for the 26" OM FLYER Cr-Mo, for example...

Never noticed that Dyno has placed a big 24" Compe on the market - or is it a custom bike with stretched frame?

Yeah, I've heard/read the story that Morales has started Dyno back in the days, before selling to Gary.

Regarding the price for the Gary frame....unfortunately no alternative for me hmm
I have to keep in mind paying additional costs like shipping and tax sad

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion

There is another unanswered question for me:
The new 26" GT Performer comes with 3/8" (about 10mm) or 9/16" (about 14mm) axles?
The Hubs look like "Bullseye-hubs" to me, because of the screwed in bolts.

I havn't seen this system in real till now, but will the dropouts fit for 3/8" or 9/16" axles?
Anybody can give me the answer?
If so, anybody also know the distance between the dropouts (front, rear) for taking other wheels?

Background is, that I would like to make a pure freestyle design, having 26" mags on it... wink

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion

The OM wouldn't disappoint you, I had the Big Ripper which was cool and all, but just looks a little odd, the wheels are just too big - great cruising machine but just had to size down a bit, and swapped it for the OM Flyer. The OM Looks spot on and still big enough to comfortably cruise and yet small enough to still feel like a BMX, not a lot bigger than a 24 inch bike, I love it and it will now stay with me, no more swapping.

For me I'd say no.
In my view the GT Performer has a decisive advantage:
You can identify it as a GT performer 3 miles upwind, just because of the unique geometry - this is legend big_smile
