2003 Specialized Fatboy Vegas

2003 Specialized Vegas DirtBoy,  model not listed in index

SOLD, kid in the neighborhood
Picked this up yesterday, ad said black bike, didn't see this model represented in the museum, wanted to show as found condition.  All stock from what I can tell, bikepedia description matches this bike exactly http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/Bike … as+Dirtboy

Not sure if I'll clean and restore, or strip it to use parts for other bikes.  Rides well, bars are much too short for an adult, if I keep it together I'll have to add tall bars and redo the brake lines.
This bike has 1 pc cranks, most of the specialized I see are 3 pc,  original mountain bike style grips (ends blown out),  springer jump seat is destroyed but pics for reference.
Full chromoly frame and fork, sum rims with specialized hubs.

Threw a random generic seat on it and set it up for my 6 year old daughter.

Her first time on a BMX,  loved the freewheel and let me know she's riding that from now on and her sister can have her other bike.

Hmm,  she doesn't know I have a diamondback RM jr stashed at my shop that we'll rebuild this winter.

I found a set of 8.5" rise black bars in the parts pile,  now I just need to find the long upper detangler cable off the same bike and I can give this thing a decent ride.

Re: 2003 Specialized Fatboy Vegas

Pic against the garage door is how I changed it up to ride,  GT performer bars,  longer odyssey detangler cable swapped on, pegs removed.   19" top tube is short for me.   May set it up for the kids,  part it out, or move it on to the next owner.  OG parts are on the shelf.  Ive yet to clean it up and wax it.

Sunshine pic is original with generic seat.

Plaid background pic is original, as found, with destroyed stock springer seat.

Sold, cheap,  kid in my neighborhood liked it.  Frame will fit him well.  Swapped to a 990 fork and brakes,  kept the sun rims for a different project and swapped on a spare black set that were trued and repacked.  Haro 39t chainring and 14t freewheel, new chain.  Kenda contacts 2.125 1.95 staggered.

Re: 2003 Specialized Fatboy Vegas

I just got the same model.
Mine's a little tougher but you sure are right about it being short: I'm only 5'6" and it feels too short for me.
Seems rad though.
I put SNAFU bars on it and flipped the stem plus it had a Diamondback seat already and no pegs, so it's not quite stock but those OG bars were stupidly small.
She's a good, smooth rider and I'll likely keep the little blighter.

Would love to own a black and yellow, late 80s Cyclops Arrow, a chrome 1993 DiamondBack Viper & a 1993 DiamondBack Turbo
