Mid 90s DK help!

I have owned this bike since 96/97. When I bought the frame it had no decals, I added them in 97. I was told it was a Legend, so I just went with that. After looking at the Legend pics mine differs in the chain stay area. Mine is straight and the others are curved. I recently restored it to resemble exactly what I would have wanted when I was 15. I bought all the parts I was never allowed to. Nonetheless, any help would be sincerely appreciated and if you need more pics please let me know. Thanks in advance!! http://i1263.photobucket.com/albums/ii634/bballjones4405/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_5435.jpg

Re: Mid 90s DK help!

I tried to look for any serial number it may have. It does have PR90 stamped on the dropout.

Re: Mid 90s DK help!

Looks great! I believe i have the answer you are looking for. In the 90's DK outsourced the building of their frames. In the early days they were built for DK by Boss. These frames (like the one you have) had straight non curved chain stays. These frames are the most sought after by collectors because they were truly hand made in the USA. Later around 97 the frames were then built in Mexico by Kastan. This is where you see the introduction if the curved chain stays known as "girly bends" Then later around 99ish production went overseas. There are other members out there that can give you more exact dates and info about the subtle frame changes but this is the gist. Your bike is likely a Legend but it could also be a Pro model as far as i know the frames were identical except for the decals. i hope this helps a little good luck!

Re: Mid 90s DK help!

DKNova!! Thanks so much for your response! I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I actually emailed dk yesterday and received a similar response. The Legend was sold as a complete bike and the Pro was just sold as a frame and forks. So, essentially they are the same thing. They couldn't, however, pinpoint a year or the exact model of it. Considering the PR90, I'd like to assume it is a Pro model now to just identify the year. Thanks again for your response!! Cheers!
