How do you install a Gyro in one of these? The headset doesn't look like the normal press in cup style.

frame needs to have  screw in Gyro tabs on the sides of frame. if it dos not than have a bike shop add them or do it your self. like my Haro 26"  bike is done.

For this you've had to drill two holes on each side of the steering tube, am i right?
In addition there is the need to cut a thread inisde the upper(?) holes to srew in, right?
Than both lower(?) holes should be to intake the spine of each bracket to prefend it from twisting, i think...
Could costs quite an effort to drill the frame... hmm

yes drill sides of frame like most new school bikes. then thread tap the top holes. take a peace of tape. lay it on a new school frame with gyro tabs holes. to trace the hole pattern. to get the spacing wright . then  transfer the tape to your frame to drill it.

Seems to be a clever idea using adhesive tape, to transfer the hole pattern to another frame - thanks for sharing! big_smile

Still waiting to get my ordered 26" Performer via UK - estimated delivery date has been delayed for more than six weeks... hmm

Re: New GT performer 26 for 2017.. looks good

I ordered my 26 inch Performer in November and it was supposed to be delivered to my local GT dealer in Arkansas on December 20th and it still had not been delivered. They told me last week that the GT rep told them it will now be sometime in February.

Are you sure that GT plans to bring out a 2018 model?
As I know the last 26" Performer came out 2014 - or am I wrong and they've brought out a model each year... hmm

I would think so, especially since these sold so well.  The made them from 2012 - 2014 with the last frame design, so maybe 3 years with this one?

They came out 2012, 2013 (both chrome) and 2014 (black, splattered or white - full chromoly - as "Pro" Performer), now a delay of 3 years to the new full chromoly 2017 model (with missing "Pro" - confusing).... - we will see wink

A chrome one would be great, of course!
Yes, I'm still the owner of a 2012 chrome model - this is mine:

Re: New GT performer 26 for 2017.. looks good

My blue 2017 Pro Performer 26 finally came in last week.  The bike shop owner stated the GT rep said they may not make anymore of these.  I love the bike.  I took it out on a dirt track in Rogers, Arkansas called the Railyard.  It is a city-owned park with dirt tracks and dirt jumps.  The 26 was a lot of fun.  It rides smooth and feels great on the jumps.  I am 6'2 and the bike is a perfect size.  After we got home, I weighed the bike using a cheap fishing scale I bought from Walmart.  The bike weighed 31 pounds.  Not bad at all for a 26 inch bike.  I definitely recommend it.

Enjoy your new 26" Performer. The bike is great looking and chances are you will have the only one around in town. By the way, I just looked up the Railyard. That place looks really cool.

Northwest Arkansas (Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, and Fayetteville) put a lot of money into bike trails and bike parks. The International Mountain Bicycling Association held their annual summit in Bentonville this past November.

Happy for you receiving the Performer in the meantime!
Not so here - another delay in estimated delivery time  sad
The dealer in UK says March 16, 2017 now.
This means about 2 month after the primal declared date (note: I‘ve ordered and payed my Performer already last year)... hmm

Re: New GT performer 26 for 2017.. looks good

Same with me.  I ordered my bike in November.  I called the phone number at the bottom of the GT Bicycles website and complained. The employee checked something on the computer and said my bike should be at the dealer anytime. I did not believe him but a few days later the dealer called me.

My favorite daily rider so far.   Geo is comfy for a 26 and if your taller.

Re: New GT performer 26 for 2017.. looks good

I jus picked up one of these yesterday and am really happy with it.  Haven't had a bike since the 1980's when I rode a Huffy Vortex, so this is pretty much the bike I lusted after as a child.

However, the bike is a bit too blue for my taste, and I'd love to replace the handlebars with a black pair (GT preferably, so I can slap a GT Performer sticker on them and not feel like a fake).  I'm looking at rider condition 80's performer handlebars on eBay but don't really know if they're compatible with the stem on this 2017 version.

Does anyone know if this would work or otherwise have alternate suggestions?

Bars are pretty much standard.  You should be good with any bars you choose.   Have fun!

The new GT OG four piece handle bars. I just bought the bars for my bmx bike. You can get a 8.6 or 9.125 rise on the bars. I am 6"1 so I bought the 9.125 bars.

Re: New GT performer 26 for 2017.. looks good

I just got mine and decided tweak it out a little... new stem, pedals, bars, gyro, brakes etc.

Probably end up going overboard but it's a great distraction while going though cancer treatment.

Bars and seat post and levers will need refinished of course but that's half the fun.

Dia Compe locking levers!  This thing is gonna be like a giant 86 Performer.   Cool build.  You must be patient.  I had to get on mine ASAP and ride it.  Keeping mine mostly stock.  Just swapped out the cheap pedals and may upgrade the brake.   Wish I could find cool repop black and white GT pad set.
