Re: Craigslist Hutch Judge Score!!! Maybe score of the century?? PIC HEAVY

also sanderspeeds were brought out by a collaberation between sander (sand'n dirt) and biaggio (vertego) for those that may not know - he used to sell repoop spindle kits for several yrs after they're crank deal fell through, after screwing sander out the deal - so the story goes

no exact numbers were ever given to how many sets they produced and sold

That color had to be after TJ retired/left. I talked to him about this yesterday and from what he said that color wasn't offered while he was there.   If this is a factory color it had to be after he left Hutch....say '86 or so.

I think that orig. Aerospeeds used a Torx drive for the wedge bolts as well. The Sanderspeeds use an allen head, am I correct on this?

I have never had a reason to remove the Aerospeeds from my survivor Pro Star, but I am almost positive that mine have a torx head.

Re: Craigslist Hutch Judge Score!!! Maybe score of the century?? PIC HEAVY

I remember the thread with sander and these cranks on vintage bmx years ago. They were probably the first high end vintage bmx item reproduced. If I recall you could only tell they were fake by taking them apart I think it may be the wedge thing. If someone has time I am they could probably find the original thread over there.

Just curious, still feeling good about your purchase price knowing the cranks aren't OG? I'm guessing that was a huge draw. Beautiful ride either way.

Well, I haven't stated what the purchase price was- but either way, yes, I am still very happy with the purchase.

I didn't know the cranks have been proven without a doubt to be sanderspeeds or aerospeeds? I thought it was still up for discussion-

I don't know what you mean about the brake set "maybe newer", you mean like 1988 instead of 86?

Love this color on the Judge...I built one once.  Thought this was my old one for a minute.

You sure the frame is original color?  I question the headtube decal.

What's up Tone? You probably know the whole Sanderspeed story you were a regular on Vintage back then.

Are the bolts metric? Sanderspeeds I think were! The welds on on those are nicer that any og ones I have ever seen, the originals the weld beads aren't that clean and uniform.

Re: Craigslist Hutch Judge Score!!! Maybe score of the century?? PIC HEAVY

So we know the bike is refinished and the hubs are probably repop.
Are we really still trying to figure out if those beautiful cranks are NOS or repop?

I would think someone who knew how to build a high end show bike wouldn't let NOS aerospeeds go for less than fare value. In fact they would have kept the box and sold them on eBay with proper documentation. I mean 30 year old NOS cranks would have a bit shelf damage if they weren't still packaged when found.

Legit or real...........the cranks aren't NOS.  They are on a bike.

Is it not possible the cranks are aerospeeds that were rechromed?

I guess, rechromed the arms, etched in the length on the arms and repop everything else. The spindle bolts and bits about as clean as can be.

Who would build a bike like this and then sell it off market at below value if it had real aerospeeds? Seems unlikely.

I not a Hutch guy but everything on that bike looks great. So, if the hubs are probably repop, what about other parts? Stem, seat post clamp, post, seat, headset? Should the pedal bearing be brown? It just seems to me that if someone refinishes or builds a Hutch Judge like this, they would know the value. He got it for a good enough price, why was it sold at a price to make it seem like a score?

Come on, that's a refinished show bike, who just lets it go for less than it's worth? Was it sold by a middle aged widow? a kid? Was a 40 year old dude? Unless it was a distress sale, stolen or the owner died, I don't see how it could be sold below market value.
