Re: Craigslist Hutch Judge Score!!! Maybe score of the century?? PIC HEAVY

it appears so according this... and sounds like maybe it was an unusual choice

In my youth , I bought my Trickstar in baby blue, partly because I liked it out of the rest of the colors offered but also because it was rarely seen. I like to have something a little different.

Re: Craigslist Hutch Judge Score!!! Maybe score of the century?? PIC HEAVY

so the wedge bolt showed that these were original hutch cranks from BiTD?

thats why you wanted a pic with the crank caps off?

i bet you paid a good bit for it but it is a stunner.

I believe the cranks are SANDERSPEED reproductions. If they have weep/drain holes in the pedal bosses or the spindle bosses they are not real. The disc  and the Hutch lettering also look like a SANDERSPEED reproduction.
Many years ago he sold a reproduction that included the entire crank set, including disc, spindle, spindle hardware, cups, and bearings.

The hubs also appear to be ART BROS. reproductions.

Re: Craigslist Hutch Judge Score!!! Maybe score of the century?? PIC HEAVY

^^I've got several sets of those, and they're VERY close to OG Aerospeeds. The only difference is these do not have the weep hole in the pedal boss, other than that they look exactly the same.

That blue Judge gave me a heckuva idea for another build though....just when I thought I was done...I see this and get pulled back in. LOL

Damn.
Had no clue.

Thought JDB's and the Choppers were the only repop of these cranks.

I'm confused- is it weephole=reproduction, or weephole=original??

So what did the OP pay for this bike?

Regardless of it being redone it's still a nice bike.

Re: Craigslist Hutch Judge Score!!! Maybe score of the century?? PIC HEAVY

I don't have a set to look at. I was going by memory. The SANDERSPEEDS had weep holes that the orig did not have. Maybe HEELZ can verify.

You can also tell by the Hutch lettering, The SANDERSPEEDS were deeper and the lines forming the lettering were a bit wider.

I'm pretty sure that my Sanderspeeds have no weep holes/drain holes at all....they still look great though.  Would LOVE to pick up another set.

Re: Craigslist Hutch Judge Score!!! Maybe score of the century?? PIC HEAVY

I never knew there was a company called Sanderspeed reproducing Hutch aerospeed crank sets. Great information I learned here today! I always assumed if the spindle was 6 sided with the wedge it was authentic Hutch aerospeeds! Pretty scary stuff for the vintage BMX collecting market if companies like Sanderspeed can reproduce Hutch aerospeeds with such accuracy and tolerances as the originals! The average Joe BMXer could never tell the difference! Thanks TYLER DERDEN AND Heelz 2315 for this red flag information!

I was always under the impression that the wedge spindle meant Hutch Aerospeed as well!!!

At this point, I'm not 100% either way about whether it's Hutch or Sanderspeed. I've been talking with Heelz, and he's gonna send some pics of his Sanderspeeds to compare these to.

The details about these that has me believing they are original are-
1. The champfered wedges. I know it's a minor detail, but if you look at the Sanderspeed ad, their wedges aren't champfered like these, and the original Hutch Aerospeeds are.
2. The cup and bearing (with brown woven seal) seems to be the same that is with every original set of Aerospeeds I can find pics of online.
3. These have the length scribed near the axle boss, as the originals do- (175)
4. Black plastic caps are present, which I can only find mentioned or pictured with original Aerospeed sets, never with the repops.

The only thing that has me doubting them as Aerospeeds, is the lack of weep holes in both the pedal and axle bosses. I question if that could be an early/late difference, like with Profiles. At a certain point, they changed their manufacturing practices and eliminated their weep holes...?

Should know more tonight when Heelz looks at his Sanderspeed sets-

If your Aerospeeds are original they would no doubt be NOS judging by how mint they are. Every piece looks perfectly new. Not to much information about Sanderspeed on the internet. I hope you find out good news when Heelz gets back with you. Regardless if the cranks are real or not you still have one gorgeous Judge! But if they are the real deal NOS that would really add the icing on the cake!:

Bad ass bike...question though...do the tires have 1985 air in them? If not I'm callin bs on that machine...Man what a bike...tnt hubs, sander speed cranks...who cares still one of the nicest Hutch's to ever show up on here..

Im always amazed at the knowledge of some if the Guys on here that are die hard collectors..and the little companies that make the "repro" parts of something that hasn't been made for 30 years

Please.....no Tuff Wheels on full on race bikes...original graphite’s only and pre 81 and never on a cruiser for God’s sake
Let me guess you were factory sponsored in
the 80’s...
Please no colored tires on race bikes...

Sanderspeeds have NOT been made longer ago than a lot of collectors being into the hobby on this site.
