Appraise my bike please ?

I just bought this 87 GT Performer at my friends house for $20. I replaced the chain with a brand new one and the worn tires with brand new maxxis holy rollers. http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q407/angew77/0719081657.jpg

Seriously , the only way to tell what it is actually worth is put it on Ebay for 99 cents, no reserve.  What it ends up selling for is what it is worth.  Fact...

Re: Appraise my bike please ?

look's to be an 87
clean that chrome up and it should be a decent bike
there is no true appraisal
put the correct year parts on it and it might be worth a little more

restore and ride, that's what bikes are for

Re: Appraise my bike please ?

It's a nice bike, I have 26" Holy Rollers on my MTB - good tyres.
You have a great base there, if it was me I would look at upgrading the pedals, stem, maybe bars (can't tell what they are) but if you're happy with them that's all that matters.
You'll find it hard to get a money valuation as appraised bikes tend to appear on Ebay the next day which ticks off the members here, but you should check Ebay (plus search on completed listings) which will give you an idea on value. Are they A'me dual grips?

Re: Appraise my bike please ?

don't the forks look a little bent?
overall, a nice bike to start with (collecting or riding). check out the other bikes in the museum to see mint, era-correct, and survivor examples of your bike. lots of info here, particularly for GT. search for "87 Performer" in the forums too. you'll get a wealth of info if you take the time.
anyway if you're into bmx and you stick around you'll make lots of friends.

Re: Appraise my bike please ?

Its worth exactly what some1 is willing to pay....
What are your intentions? Flip it and make a buck or two...or keep it and ride it?
Id start it at $350-$400 and let some1 make an honest offer....
The market is pretty low right now though, so those prices might be a stretch...

Re: Appraise my bike please ?

You don't need to LIST your Bike on E Bay.

But, I would support you in going on E Bay, searching out this year and style of GT...and watching for a few weeks what they are selling for.

almost all the Parts and pieces I have traded and sold...I learned about buy watching E Bay.

I have no less than 30 items on my watch list at any givin time.

I watch...I learn.

good luck young fella...The reason that you got flak from members here, is that you are New...your Post count is Down..you have no feedback,

and a lot of people come here...ask for a Value ( instead of offering it to respected..BMX lovers like us here ) and once we help them out, they Run to E bay with their new found knowledge that we told them....and sell it on E Bay.

It takes many of us YEARS to find and collect this stuff.
Most of us LOVE IT!!!...and it's tough to see guys roll in and ask this and that...then take off.

I am not saying that this is what you are doing in this post, but you may want to get your feet wet a bit here..hang out and learn a bit....then ask these VALUE questions.

" Value, is only what the person ,who is buying it places on something...and decides to spend "

" Personal Value, has more to do with sentimentality..and an emotional need or attachment that ONE person has for something "

if an Item for sale has a BIG sentimental value to one person.....he will spend ANY amount to get it.

I don't like you Bike because I didn't ride on years ago.
so, to me, it's worth about $100.oo

BUT, if I have a good friend who has been hunting for this Bike for years..I will hook him up, forward contact info, and even BUY it if I can not contact him....BECAUSE I know that he has a great sentimental Value for it.....then I'll hook him up later.

This was my personal vent for the evening....
hope my info helped...or at least gave you a different way of seeing something.

peace,
Kev.
