1976 Race Inc. RA-7

My brother and I bought this at a flea market in 1981 in El Paso, Tx. We gave it to a friend of ours named Raul who was extremely poor and was riding a mid 70's Mono-Shock bike. We knew it was fairly rare in 1981. He rode it for a few more years, but once he got a car, it was relegated to the scrap pile. In 1987, I still had my late 70's Redline Proline, and I still liked to "Thrash". I had a buddy named Alex who liked to ride as well, but did not have a bike. I went to Raul's house, and asked him about the old Race Inc. he told me I could have it back, but he wanted $10.00 for a dime bag-deal!! I put it together for Alex with mostly Wald parts that I bought at Wal Mart. Alex joined the Marine Corps a few months later, and the bike sat at his house until he came back to civilian duty in 1991. He gave the bike to another friend named Ted who had it until last year when Alex was able to get it from him after some persuading. The bike looked exactly the way it did when we put it back together in 1987 and spray bombed it white. Some have said that the extra holes in the drop outs and gussets were added, but they were there in 1981 when my brother and I bought it, so I am leaving it as is.

Yes the holes are not by Bill Bastain at the factory, but were added by some owner between '76 and you getting it in '81. However, it is an awesome piece of bmx history, that showcases what we did as kids (or what our Dads did) to make a bike "faster". It is AWESOME just the way it is, and it matches your user name so well.

mmmm........loop tails.......

...and that's all I have to say about that...

The thing is that no one really knows for sure where or when the holes were added. The holes in the rear dropouts are so perfect that they align with each other.

Yes sir, they are cool and someone did a great job with a ruler, tape measure, micrometer, etc. after it left the Bill Bastian Race Inc, SE, Cycle Pro, Laguna, FMF, Peugeot factory.

I am not trying to get into an argument here, but the truth is, unless you or I were there when every frame was built, no really knows for sure what went on. I can't say they were done from the beginning anymore than you can say they weren't. I just appreciate all the knowledge and history that all the Race Inc. collectors are able to share here.
