1977 FMF Team Replica
1977 FMF Team Replica
American BMX Classic
I recently picked up this little gem on ePay not long ago. I have no doubt about it's authenticity, as we all know, no rules went unbroken
during Bastain's reign. In fact, I have several FMF frames, with OG finish & decals with no oval gusset hole and just as many
og Race Inc.'s with. Nevertheless, this frame appears to have never had a wheel mounted on it. Purchased from Thomas Bike Shop
in San Diego, CA. Tom claims that it's been there since 1978, maybe it was left by a customer who was having parts mounted to it or maybe it was waiting
for a wheelset. I do know it's probably the closest I will get to an NOS FMF, so I'm a happy camper.
The decals are interesting in that although original, they are not like my other Team Replica "production" decals. They appear to be more like something their old motorcycle parts might have been labeled with. I wonder if these decals may have been a prototype for early or later models but I'm not sure. According to reliable sources, all FMF frames were made in 1976, some had the brake bridge and some did not.
The beautiful Redline fork, Stem, Schwinn clamp, Oakley grips, were all a bonus....heck, I just wanted the frame.

Re: 1977 FMF Team Replica
So you're the one who got it. We had a pretty good debate on the Race Inc thread as to it not being a real FMF due to the stickers along with no hole. I was taking a pretty firm stance that it was not a FMF. Glad you feel like its all og and a true FMF, makes the sticker set that much cooler.

Re: 1977 FMF Team Replica
LOL, that's some funny sh*t right there!! Also, thanks for your comments everyone.
Yes, there is always a possibility that this is a Race Inc. (made by the same guy at the same time) but we do know for sure
that it was made in 76' or '77' by the d/o's and floval weld. Again, these decals do look old and original, even though they are different
than other Team Replica's. And because I have other FMF's w/o the hole, this wasn't a red flag to me. When I add the fact that the
bike shop claimed to have had the frame most of it's life, I felt good about the transaction and that they had no reason to mislead me.
If the original owner purchased it and threw on some FMF decals back in '77, this would be possible...but why? The imagination can go
wild from here, Maybe he worked for Bill at Race Inc. and took it home one night, after clocking out. Heck, I know I would have if I
had worked there LOL!!!

Re: 1977 FMF Team Replica
An amazing find. IMO this is the baddest frame ever made! Pictures brings back a lot of memories. As kids, my older brother had the same exact one. He had an all red bike, everything, that he use to race. I got to race it a few times myself, my steel Huffy wasn't cutting it. Still have our 80s helmets though.
