What is wrong w modern BMX bikes in a single picture

Typed "BMX" in my search bar and before I could type anything else this came up...these look almost exactly alike, aside from the $900 price difference...http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/213187/image5659e36052.jpg

And both of these would be functionally better than any pre-1990 BMX.

(I think)

I'd definitely pay the extra $900.  Don't really want to ride high tensile steel with a 20" top tube.  big_smile

The Hi Ten steel of today is far superior over the chromoly from back in the 80's.

Me too, brake are good.

You almost need disc brakes in Portland though, especially in the foothills

The WTP Envy does come with brakes,it's up to the rider if he/she chooses to put them on.

Do you guys seriously not get that to the casual observer or even someone just getting into serious riding that those two pics look like different versions of the "build a bmx" flash programs? Gone are the days of distinctive geometry/frame construction.

Trust me and I mean trust me, we get it. More than you will ever know.

We get the point of all new school looks the same, been rehashing this topic for going on 6 years since I joined. Its a pointless blah fest, the facts of old, mid and new school geometry speak for themselves.

As far as being creative with paint schemes, its safe to say that there are only so many colors. And its also safe to say that over the past 40 years, choices are getting pretty slim.

As far as a new rider goes, the simple rule of getting what you pay for still applies in most cases. Not always, but most times. And each rider should do his homework, especially when paying for top end bikes. If a new rider plunks down $1100 without doing research for themselves, they will learn the hard way. That's a lesson we all have learned at some point.

Trust me on this, many of us have been rolling BMX for decades and have grown with the sport. We all have our likes and dislikes, certain brands and what not. We all have different budgets as well. The $200 bike is for a person who wants a $200 bike and there's nothing wrong with that, riding is the most important thing. But for those with bigger budgets, $1000 and up bikes are what we choose. Because a $1000 bike " looks " similar to a $200 bike does not mean we were are fools.

I've got an Eastern Grim Reaper I love, which I don't think anyone can argue is definitely a new school ride- but I can also pick one out of a frame lineup without stickers. I know quality is quality, but when it's almost indistinguishable from slag-steel shit, something is wrong with the visual aesthetics of frame construction and the sport in general...

Re: What is wrong w modern BMX bikes in a single picture

Somebody please put up pics of a Motomag and all its clones.  GT Performer and clones.  Haro Master and clones.  There have always been bikes that LOOK the same but arent.  The average person back in the 80 had no clue what made a GT Performer any better than a Western Flyer Freedom.

Nothing had changed at all.

I see your point, totally. What a great thing to keep on with the same business model.
Carry on!
