Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

So I have a Titan 24 and my kid wanted a matching one. So i bought an almost complete off a member here and that's when the fun started!
It had everything but the bottom bracket. I had no idea that the bottom bracket was unique and not a standard size. I couldn't find one anywhere for sale, and there was not much info out there to help.

So here is what i did...First i bought a YST bottom Bracket with locking collars. $35

I couldn't use the bearing and cups and had to find smaller bearings that fit the 17mm inner diameter of the YST spindle and the outer diameter of the frame Bottom Bracket. I bought regular steel bearings on amazon for about $4 each. Size 6003-2RS (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008 … ge_o03_s00) You can get ceramic in this size if needed.

Finally i went to a local machine shop and had the Cups made. I though this is where i would fork out a bunch of dough, but turns out he only charged me $40 for a set. Not bad considering they are 1 off custom made cups. this is the final result...

Hope this helps! If you have any questions, just PM me.

Thanks - Potato

Re: Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

What cranks are you planning to use?

Are you able to switch the spindle if required to get the desired chainline?

Looks good.

Re: Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

The YST Spindle is adjustable left to right and you can use any square taper cranks. To adjust, just loosen the collars and slide either way. i think i used a 128mm spindle. works fine.

I can have more cups made. Or you can check your local machine shop. Mine had to re-round my bottom bracket first and pressed them in.

Re: Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

This is the same as the mcs mantis mini dimensions?  The lower bearing hole looks like its 27mm.  Is that the outside diameter for the piece he made you?  If so looks like he's got another customer.  However I did notice the bearings that your link goes to has a 35mm OD.  Chappy66

Great work.  I had to find new bearings for a Titan mini years ago.  The ones that fit the Titan mini and the mcs mini mantis are called aircraft torque tube bearings.  1-1/16" OD and 5/8" ID.  You can find them on line

Re: Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

From what i have been told, the Mantis is the same size. I have never seen one in person to check. I posted the bearing# and took a picture of the exact bearing i used.

Re: Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

The bearings used in the factory titan mini B.B. are MRC brand bearings. The model number is R10FF H401. These can be found on eBay. Can also order from here:
https://m.grainger.com/mobile/product/M … Id=1000241

They can also be found through other bearing suppliers online.

As far as the cups go, stated earlier, you'll have to use your local machine shop to make new ones.

Re: Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

On the titan mini and the mcs mini, the bearings get pressed right into the frame, no cups needed as I remember

Re: Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

Curious. My titan came with cups but I see there are some in the museum that look like the bearings are pressed right into the bottom bracket. I wonder what the difference is in the shell that would allow bearings pressed in without cups. Does anyone have close up pics of the non-cup style bb as well as a explanation for the two styles. I'd guess they were just a different design from year to year. Wonder which came first. Questions questions.

Re: Titan Mini, MCS Mantis Bottom Bracket.

Mines got a larger shell for the cups. The press in type remind me of Profile Magnatanium Mini bb. Looks about the same size.
