Re: Quality or Quantity what your collection

Being into New School, quality can be had at almost every price level these days IMO. A
$550-$600 full chromo complete's quality rivals the top of the line bikes from the 80's, 90's and 00's.

IMO

Quality. I will be selling nearly my entire collection next year. Keeping maybe two of my 70s and 80s bikes and my 2015 WTP. Quantity takes up too much space.

Re: Quality or Quantity what your collection

It has never really been about quantity for me.  Except for very early on, I've prided myself in collecting less commonly seen mid school bikes.  If you look in My Bikes, I doubt most have seen examples in person of any of my built cruisers in the last month -- longer in some cases.

Re: Quality or Quantity what your collection

Depends on how much $$$ a guy has doesn't it?  I started out getting what I never had but wanted.  Mongoose's.  Replaced my Childhood bike that I sold with another Pro thunder (nostalgia).  Picked up a New School Redline because they ride so solid and you can find anything for a New School ride and not have to drain your bank account to get it. Now i am on the look out for an 80's freestyle bike that I can get as cheap as possible. smile Update: picked up a 1986 Mongoose FS-1 last October.

Re: Quality or Quantity what your collection

I have 1 newer rider, 1 unique carpet queen and a few survivor condition old school bikes.
Not into quantity, I have no desire to collect a ton of bikes.
I have other hobbies too so putting everything into just one makes no sense to me.
I like to mix shit up lol

Re: Quality or Quantity what your collection

I have to say that in respect to collecting something like old school bmx,  quality is really in the eye of the beholder so to speak. For example, other than the tuffs on pkripper68bmx's infamous nomura, the rest of it to me is worthless because it has no significance to me personally. I'd much rather see those tuffs on a nice redline.

Re: Quality or Quantity what your collection

I used to buy bikes just to buy them. I found some bikes I liked more and have purchased parts to make them nicer. I only buy random bikes today to fund building the others.

Definately quality over quantity.I much rather have one very high quality bike versus 5 mediocre bikes.

Re: Quality or Quantity what your collection

I started out looking for quantity and ended up with way too much stuff so eventually I had to cull.  Over time the more research I did the more specific my interests became in relation to certain bikes/parts and their history, design, value, rideability etc.  Space is also an issue for me so three quality 26" riders is about my limit.  I always have something to ride, something to work on and something to look at...!  cool

this is the collecting timeline for most of us.

many start out by grabbing up everything we liked BiTD
then slowly sell or trade it all to make one or two grail builds
that become our keepers.
