1971 Schwinn Stingray Cotton Picker

Not many of the Cotton Pickers were ever made. The Naacp frowned severely on the word usage and had it banned. I figured what better to carve up tongue

I took this bike from this to this. I resurected it back to it's former glory later on tho, so no one freak out. I did it for the paperboy build. It's a 1971 5 speed Schwinn Stingray Cotton Picker. I used an nos persons bmx banana seat dated to 79, unstamped Tuff ones with a freecoaster threaded in. A set of Dia Compe brakes, an nos Winn bar and double bolt stem setup, a Scwinn Scrambler snap pad set,a nd a badass plate my buddy found for me. I originally had it posted on here, but it got deleted in the Stingray purge. Schwinn is the parent to all bmx and to forget that or not know it is a shame. In every ad from the 70's you go look at you see the parts all come from the greater SchwinnAshtabula parent company. We can't let this true history of all of it be forgotten. Stingray is the original bmx before bmx. Ask the O.M. what he rode and he'd tell you a Krate modified, ask Stu, he'll tell you what he learned to jump on and whoop people on.

NO one can say that's not BMX.  That's more BMX than a mid-school GT with a gear changer.  That's more BMX than ALL the beach cruisers allowed in.  Hell, that's more BMX than the 16" I just finished for my 5YO.  Kudos.

Hey Screw the NAACP, My 102 year old Grandmother picked cotton in Alabama as early as 6 years old! Love the Bike Olive! You are a true inspiration.....

I’d love to see more documentation on the “frown” by the NAACP. It’d be rather ignorant, considering people of all color (to include my Mexican father-in-law) picked cotton for a living.

I’d like to hear more about this so-called “SchwinnAshtabula parent company”! Please?

Re: 1971 Schwinn Stingray Cotton Picker

Nice Job. I got one of these for x mas as a kid and couldn't jump off ramps with a springer front end.
My neighbor got a red scrambler set up just like you did above and I loved it u could do wheelies and jump off curbs.
Good memories COOL!!

Its all good!
