1983 GT Pro

Couldn't pass on resurrecting this one. Oddly, it had a cruiser-size downtube decal that appears to be original... or added many years ago. Fortunately had the correct forks to build it.

Thanks for checking it out!

Re: 1983 GT Pro

Sweet. Love the yellow. Is it me or is that chain a bit long. Looks like the wheel is about to fall off?

Re: 1983 GT Pro

Great looking GT.  It's similar to how I've got mine set up, but I've got blue pads on mine.  Could you post a close up of the sticker you're talking about?  I'm interested to see what you mean.  I thought all the early GT's, I mean the expert, pro, cruiser 24, 26, all used the same size stickers?  :)

Re: 1983 GT Pro

Nope, you're right... Chain still needs a trim. (Trying to make it a PRO LONG model :P) Couldn't resist snapping a few shots and documenting it.

I also thought they all shared the same size downtube decal. And maybe they do? Once I discovered it was about 1 1/2" longer than any other early GT downtube decal I've come across (repro or original) I researched and found a few advertised for 24 26 frames. I picked one up advertised as NOS?  (8" long) and it is identical to mine. (Pics added for reference) Someone here must know if the 8" decals were available for cruisers.

Re: 1983 GT Pro

Wow. That brings back a ton of memories. :|

One of my friends had one pretty similar. It was the only GT I ever saw decked out in gold and yellow....until now. Great job!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Fav'd.

Re: 1983 GT Pro

That downtube decal is from mid-'84 - '86 GT Pro frameset.  Tell-tale "4130 CHROMW-MOLY" instead of "Santa Ana California"  Most likely added bitd as you suspect.

Great info... I completely overlooked that detail. Certainly dates the decal newer than '83 with GT dropping 'Santa Ana, CA' from their logo. Thanks for sharing that...
