U.S.A. made Mirra Pro's & U.S.A. made Backtrail/Nyquist pro's

***  ATTENTION - THIS THREAD IS ONLY FOR THE  U.S.A. MADE MIRRA PRO AND BACKTRAIL/NYQUIST PRO FRAMES. IF YOU HAVE A FRAME YOU'RE NOT SURE ABOUT PLEASE P.M. ME OR USE THE CHECKLIST BELOW TO SEE IF ITS A U.S. MADE FRAME.  EVERY YEAR HARO MADE A SMALL AMOUNT OF THE MIRRA PRO AND BACKTRAIL/NYQUIST PRO FRAMES IN THE U.S. AND SOLD THEM AS A FRAME ONLY TO BUILD YOUR OWN BIKE. THESE ARE NOT THE BIKES SOLD AS COMPLETES, WHICH WERE ALL MANUFACTURED IN TAIWAN. IF YOUHAVE A TAIWAN MADE MIRRA OR BACKTRAIL/NYQUIST BIKE PLEASE ADD IT ON THE MIDSCHOOL HARO THREAD HERE http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.p … 7&p=47 , WED LOVE TO SEE IT, BUT IT DOESN'T BELONG ON THIS THREAD, THANKS ***

This thread is specifically for the American made Mirra Pro's and Backtrail/Nyquist Pro's that were sold in limited numbers as Frame's only. Id like to start a serial number registry as well.  This is not the correct thread for the more common Mirra Pro's and Backtrail/Nyquist Pro's that were sold as completes, those were manufactured in Taiwan. The goal of this thread is to make more people aware of these frames as well as find out more info. on them such as where they were made and how many were actually produced. Other info. will include how to differentiate them from the Taiwan made frames and the differences between the two year by year.

I will be adding my own frames serial numbers to the registry as I can, they are all currently packed away in preparation for an upcoming move. If you own one of these frames and are interested in sharing your serial number for the registry, you can remain anonymous if preferred. Just send me a P.M. with your serial number and as much info. on your frame as you'd like to share and I'll add it to the registry without or without your name as you prefer.

So if you currently own or have information about the American made Haro frames, or are interested in them please feel free to post. Their has to be more of these bikes out there than Have been posted. Its very possible that most of the owners don't even know what they have and are unaware that theyre frame is any different than the Other Mirra's and Backtrail's.

The Taiwan Mirra Pro's were made from 1999 to 2006. At this time I am not aware of any 1999, 2005 or 2006 U.S. made Mirra Pro frame's so I don't even know for sure if they were made during those years. I had been told that they discontinued the U.S. made program during the '04-05 model yrs, but recently I came across the only 2004 U.S. frame known so far, but it does prove they were made at least for the '04 model yr.

The Backtrail Pro frames that were part of the U.S. made program were available when the Backtrail was Ryan Nyquist signature model. I believe they were available from 2000 to 2003.

I will be adding pic's and info. top this thread over the next few days.

QUESTIONS I'D LIKE TO FIND THE ANSWER'S TO REGARDING THESE FRAMES -

1. who and where were they manufactured - I found an article from a test of the 2000 U.S. frame and they mentioned that the same fab shop making 2Hip's frames at that time were doing the U.S. frames for Haro, and that the shop was co-owned by Gary Turner. They did not mention a name or where it was located though.

2.  How many U.S frames were made for each year - most years only have 3 digit spaces for frame number so it would seem like they didn't do over 999 a year, but I seriously doubt it was that high. The highest number frame I remember seeing is the 119 for 2000.

3. Did they do a U.S. frame for the '99 Mirra Pro's, or the 2005 and 2006 Mirra Pro's - I had heard they didn't do them in 2004-2005 but I have a 2004 so I know they at least did them for one of those years. I have never seen or heard of a '99. 2005 or 2006 althoutgh I would think they did a 2006 and I have heard they did. You would think Dave's gold plated bike would have been a U.S. frame.

Re: U.S.A. made Mirra Pro's & U.S.A. made Backtrail/Nyquist pro's

I love you guys bikes, But they don't belong in this thread. put that Midschool Haro Porn on the Midschool Haro thread. Jopac, actually one of your frames was a U.S. Backtrail/Nyquist Pro. But listen guys, if you have a Mirra or Backtrail/Nyquist Pro and your not sure what to look for to tell if its U.S. made or not here are a few quick things to check to get an idea.

1. aluminum headtube badge - all the U.S. made frames except for a few of the 2000 y2k frames with the old English lettering were made with aluminum headtube badges.

2. No weepholes - the U.S. frames up until 2002 didn't have weep holes, in 2003 they started having them just like the Taiwan frames.

3. The rear drops are not stamped. No "INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH" or "H" stamped in them. On some years, such as the 2002, 2001 and 2000 they have the serial number stamped on the outside of the right side drop.

4. 2003 frames - the 990 mounts were moved to the bottom of the seat stay's but the Taiwan completes kept them on the top of the chain stay's.

5. The Head tubes are much thicker, they are cnc'd where as the Taiwan frames are not.

6. 2004 frame has many small things that set it apart, a couple are the lack of the raised "M" logo for Mirra on the drops, the top tube gusset still has it just like the Taiwan made frames though. The raised lip around the edge of the bb shell and the serial number, which is the same configuration as the 2003 serial numbers. Its stamped on one lip of the BB shell. On one side it say's Mirra Pro and on the other it has a serial starting with CIC - . Also important to note, in 2004 and some other yrs possibly, Haro did offer their Taiwan made frames for sale as a frame kit only as well. So not all frames bought as a frame only kit during 2004 and possibly some other yrs are automatically U.S. made.

7. U.S. frames do not have the indents in the chainstays for crank clearance which the Taiwan frames did.

HaroSickness's post above is spot on wink

To Jopac:
Few, maybe 500 or more ...but less than 1000 for sure.

In the serial above..H i believe stands for 'HARO' and 01 for 2001 wink
Then next comes the build number..which is #115

That's a good question. its something I have been trying to find out for awhile now without much luck. the only info. I have found so far was a old article/review of the 2000 y2k U.S. frame that said they were manufactured by the same place that was making 2hip's frames back then and that it was owned in part by Gary Turner.

Re: U.S.A. made Mirra Pro's & U.S.A. made Backtrail/Nyquist pro's

PLEASE GUYS, THIS THREAD IS ONLY FOR THE U.S.A. MADE MIRRA PRO'S AND BACKTRAIL/NYQUIST PRO FRAMES. 99% OF MIRRA AND BACKTRAIL BIKES WERE MADE IN TAIWAN, ALL BIKES SOLD AS COMPLETES WERE MADE IN TAIWAN, AND DO NOT BELONG ON THIS THREAD. IF YOU HAVE A FRAME YOU THINK MAY BE A U.S. MADE FRAME BUT AREN'T SURE ABOUT PLEASE P.M. ME OR USE THE CHECKLIST ABOVE TO DETERMINE WHAT IT IS. EVERY YEAR HARO MADE A VERY SMALL NUMBER OF MIRRA PRO AND BACKTRAIL/NYQUIST PRO FRAMES IN THE U.S. THAT WERE SOLD AS FRAME KITS ONLY. THEY ARE DIFFERENT THAN THE TAIWAN MADE BIKES. THIS THREAD IS FOR THEM. MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS AND THIS THREAD HOPEFULLY WILL RAISE AWARENESS AND POSSIBLY BRING MORE INFO. AND MORE OF THESE FRAMES TO LIGHT. THANK YOU big_smile

P.S. if you previously submitted a NON-U.S. bike to this thread, it was either deleted or moved to the midschool haro thread. I hope this hasn't offended anyone, im just trying to keep this thread for the U.S. frames only, and most people aren't even aware they exist or that theres a difference between them and the much more common Taiwan made frames, and I didn't want it getting confusing which was another reason for having them removed from this thread. sorry, and hopefully any of you guys will re-submit them to the Mid-school Haro thread here http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=521117  as we'd love to see them. big_smile

when I first started collecting the U.S. frames, everyone was under the impression that they did not have the U.S. frames for 2004 and 2005. A few months ago I was cruising around craigslist and came across a what appeared to be a NOS 2004 Mirra Pro frame, but it had the aluminum headtube badge that should denote the U.S. made frames. After some help from a very cooperative and cool seller it made it to me in south florida all the way from cali. the frame had been purchased from dans comp by the seller and never built, it just sat in a box in his room for years. Originally I had doubts because the aluminum headtube badge looke dlike a 3 yr old put it on, crooked and off center by a mile. But after much research and comparison to other 2004 known Taiwan made frames, it's apparent this is different. The serial number shows it was actually manufactured in the last part of 2003 for the 2004 model yr. , as its definitely a 2004 model yr frame. The color SG Black was a 04 option, it has the smaller Mid BB that was used on the Mirra's starting in 2004 and also the integrated headset that was also introduced in 2004 model yr. , the serial number is the same format as my 2003 U.S. made frames though, which is different from the Taiwan made frames. They start out with the prefix CIC- . Other key differences so far from the 2004 Taiwan frames are the lack of the raised "M" Mirra logo on the drops on the U.S. frame, the BB shell is different, the U.S. made frame doesn't have a lip around the edge of the shell like the Taiwan made frames and also no indents in the chainstays for crank clearance or on the inside such as from bending the tubing. Below are pics from my black 2004 and crowe-t's mint green 2004 frames. Both NOS and both sold as separate frame kits.

***Although after looking at his serial number I have to wonder if his isn't a U.S. frame as well, maybe just a little later in the production year after some changes were made ?? It has the U.S. serial format used earlier on the U.S. frames, it was sold separately as a frame kit only, definitely worth looking into. big_smile .

the 04 Mirras still used the euro bb then in 05 they went to the ISIS bb which is the same concept but bigger bearings. Id have to check my 04s because I have the black on and 2 pewter ones.

Re: U.S.A. made Mirra Pro's & U.S.A. made Backtrail/Nyquist pro's

midschooljon ... if your referring to the Mirras and backtrails, all of them have that type of endcaps on the stays, Taiwan and U.S. made.

Jopac, I knew they went to the Mid in 04, I haven't had the pleasur eo fowning an 05-06 yet though so not familiar with those. I desperately want a all original 06 in white though, and also another one to eventually build as a replica of Dave's gold bike. I am trying to figure out if they did the U.S. frames for 06 though so I know whether I need to find one for the replica/tribute build. I sent an email to that dude that restored Daves gold plated bike a few yrs ago, he sent me a brief email back and said hed be in touch when he had some more time to answer some of my questions. If I remember correctly, you have seen the bike in person, do you remember if it had a aluminum headtube badge or not ? that would be an indication if it was a U.S. made frame

What about forks? Were any forks made in the US?

I don't think so, the Mirras and Backtrails used the megafork 2, whisc had the machines steer tube and was stronger then the regular megafork. They did have a run of parts stamped made in U.S.A. though, everything from Mega-Nuke sprockets to the Big and Small block stems.  Some of the Premium stuff was also stamped "made in U.S.A." like my premium wedge stem.  They also had a U.S. made version of the chrome fusion cranks which I have only seen in the catalogues and id like to have a set someday. I really thought about whether to include the U.S. made parts in this thread along with the Haro sr-71 and monocoque frames which were also made in the U.S., but decided against it because I don't think they were made in the same facility that did the Mirra Pro's and Backtrail/Nyquist Pro's.

Re: U.S.A. made Mirra Pro's & U.S.A. made Backtrail/Nyquist pro's

I have seen, ridden and drooled over the gold Mirra. I was looking on my phone and it looks like it does have a metal badge on it. Now that I think about it I think my 05 has one too. If you check my pics on the other haro tread you might be able to tell. I have more that I haven't uploaded.

I would really like to know if that 2005 has a badge. that would be a huge clue as to whether they had them in 2005 or not. I noticed the catalogues don't list them as U.S. frames for 03 or 04 but they are the U.S. frames.

+1

Early made Premium stems like "Wedge Stem" and "LT Stem"
Were indeed USA Made wink
Also stamped Made In USA.

Forks were not made in USA.
But were made by APREBIC company...
Mirra Pro complete bike came stock on CNC'ed Megaforks
And the Backtrail Pro on CNC'ed Straightshooter ones wink
Both of these were very sold and strong forks.

Mirra himself and Ryan Nyquist used to ride them too.

Re: U.S.A. made Mirra Pro's & U.S.A. made Backtrail/Nyquist pro's

ps: I was about buying a new USA-Made 2006 Mirra Pro in white colour.
I know cause it was advertised on DANS' COMP in 2006 catalogs...but when i could afford it, frames had been sold already hmm
