I got a bike off craigslist and went riding last night! Woot!

big_smile

I gave my freestyle bike to my nephew for Christmas. Hadn't had time to ride it as I've been redoing a house, and all the other stuff I'm involved in. But, with spring here, I've been itching to ride. It has been a LONG time since I've had a flatland session, but when I saw a decent condition Standard on craigslist for $300... I figured, what the heck, so I offered him $150, and got it for $200!

Had to drive about 4 hours to get it, but that was on Tuesday. So last night, I busted it out and after I pushed the levers down, and moved the bars up a little. I got out and rode it. Other than one lever that I hate, (ordered a set of tech 77's already and some new brake pads, and a slick cable for the front) and a slightly bent front axle. It seems like a really nice ride!

I was trying to knock off the cobwebs and do some tricks, as it has been forever since I rode a BMX bike. But, it was really fun! It made me realize how out of shape I am, and I play paintball quite often, but it is totally different muscles!

I landed a few tricks, and walked out of a ton more, so it will just take time to get them back in my wheelhouse. I didn't crash, and easily stepped out of everything I tried. And I had a blast. The neighborhood kids were tripping out and asking me to "do that trick again" while they filmed with their cameras. Which made me laugh as I was doing the most basic stuff!

I pulled a few infinity rolls, a megaspin, a few tailwhips, lawnmowers, rear peg wheelies, cricket, and a smoothie. Tried but failed on a boomerang, lardyard, frontyard, and some other easy stuff. Wanted to try a hang 5 but was too sketchy on my rear peg wheelies, so I didn't try it, as I couldn't find my gloves, and didn't want to go down on my wrists.

Flatlanding at 43 is a lot harder than it was at 23, but it is still a blast! I was WORN OUT after 15-20 minutes of riding. Breathing hard, arms shaking. Lol.

Realized that I miss my original peregrine q bars, as these mid school haros are SO short, and I need the width for leverage... Anyone know a comparable bar that matches up size and low top tube to the original peregrine q's? Cuz I can see that will need to be my next upgrade...

My goal is to get back a bunch of tricks before the summer is over! I'd love to learn to nail 43 different ones for my 43 years of life!

Those early Standards are supposed to be really good ones aren't they?

Re: I got a bike off craigslist and went riding last night! Woot!

No clue, I just knew since it was a Standard, it was made in the USA. The serial number starts with 99, so I would assume it is a 99 model, but I have no clue...

I knew it was worth the money since it had profile cranks, and decent chrome rims, and obviously the frame... I don't know much about mid school bikes...

No cracks and the bike looks hardly ridden at all. Time capsule! I'll put it through its paces.

I just need to find some wider bars. These thin ones are so narrow it feels weird!

That's an awesome '99 125 motocross. Kinda weird seeing it with front brakes and four stunt bars.

Thanks guys, I'm thinking about making videos showing easy tricks for geezers like me as I get them back. I used to teach flatland and Woodward so I "know" how to do a lot, but it has been so long that I have to relearn everything...

Yeah, I was thinking STA at first, but it's missing that top tube seat tube junction thing as well as the gusset by the head tube.

I rode a 2000 Standard STA R-Model 20.5"tt for street + flatland for several years.  Heavy but I liked it a lot and learned a lot of stuff on it. cool

I'm with you on that. When people try to offer half my asking price I don't take em serious as a buyer. So that was a score and luck was on you side I think.
