1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour

An exact replica of the bike I built after I received a day glo pink GT Pro Freestyle Tour frame and fork from my parents for Christmas of 1987!

As I come across more and more pictures from when I rode back in the day, I find myself wanting to replicate each one of those bikes! So this has become my quest! To build each one of these bikes to look just like the bikes I had back in the day! Like this 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour, which I received as a frame and fork for Christmas of 1987. I took parts off of my chrome 86 Pro Performer to build this bike! Like the black Dyno Pretzel bars, the white Dia Compe Tech 7 levers and the silver Shimano DX pedals. It also had some new parts too, like the white Dia Compe 990's on the rear, the white ACS 860 front brake and the real deal A'me Unitrons as well as black GT fork standers and the angled GT frame standers. Chrome Superlace hubs were laced up to a pair of black and shiny side Ukai hoops. And you can't forget the solid blue freestyle tread GT 20x1.75 tires! It took a long time to gather all the parts but it was worthwhile in my mind! The only thing I haven't put on yet are the Odyssey Faucet style valve stem caps. The original set I had were white. I have a set of brand new ones but they are black so I'm going to paint them white! Take a look at the very last picture, that was taken the day after Christmas in 1987. As soon as I finished putting it together, I was riding! That's a picture looking down at me from the deck of my good buddy Troy's quarter pipe! Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed putting it back together!

That's Dope Oppe! The color scheme  is like WTF!? Those Unitrons are sick and I want them black UKIAs Instant fave. I'm tired of all these cookie cutter builds anyway. :cool

Re: 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour

Thanks brotha, I appreciate the kind words! Although I do enjoy looking at the catalog spec builds that people do, I'm with ya man! I knew of no one that just rode the bike all stock back in the day. I've built some catalog spec bikes and they look so sweet but for me, it was time to mix it up a little and building replica's of what I actually use to ride was the answer!

Re: 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour

Yeah they are, I was wondering if you would notice them! Thanks again, they really made this build complete - that's the exact same color Unitrons I had on the original bike!

Very cool. I love the day glow pink and I think the blue tires rock with it. Especially cool that's the way you built it back in the day. Awesome.

That's awesome man!  I've been wanting to replicate my 85 Master I rode back in the day and you just gave me inspiration

Re: 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour

Catalog builds are alright, kinda boring. This thing has character. I like how the grips throw it off and it doesn't match or make sense. Most people would have done the bars in the matching pink, the black sets it off in a cool way. I hope you get it out and ride it!
