1980 Morrison Viper

Not pretty.... Not light...

I came across this ol survivor on TM a few weeks back. I wasn't really looking for one but as soon as I saw it the memories came flooding back & I had to have it! This is the bike (not the actual) my best mate at the time rode! I remember the 1st time I saw it as he rode into school in the morning on it! Brand spanking new, bright yellow & possibly the ugliest thing I had ever seen! Of course I said "wow what a cool bike dude, your lucky.." knowing full well my 2 or 3 week old Morrison Comet was waaaay cooler! We rode around the district for years on them! I had a couple of rides on it & couldn't wait to get off it... Loads of great times & memoires, so this bike is a very sentimental piece to me. Unfortunately my best mate passed away after an accident back when we were in our early 20's so it nice to have it in his memory. RIP Rob! This bike came from an older couple from Dunedin. The son had moved on years prior & this was still in the shed until a recent clean up. It is in pretty good nick, tires pretty much rotted of it, a little rust here & there but all original apart from the pedals & grips. The bike should have black foam grips & black traps for pedals, so I will find some in time. It has whopping great 2.125 steel araya rims with new Cheng shin 1.75 C183's on, & they weigh a ton! It has a 1" seat post & 1 1/2" (38mm) top tube! The pads are still in great condition. It rides pretty nice according to my 8yr old... I will have to take his word....

Great story -

Cool bike,  it's always a kick to reconnect with our past.

Your Best Mate Rob is probably looking down and smiling :)

Too many cool bikes out there,  not enough money in my wallet ...

Re: 1980 Morrison Viper

Ha, I sw this on trademe too and it brought back memories of my neighbour also, who had one of these, I had a Supermax, I remember the Viper being seriously heavy, as a 6 year old we couldn't jump it, I thought about bying it but I am glad it went somewhere special. Good work :)
