DIY - Mop Bucket Number Plate tutorial - complete with templates!!!

So I've made a few of these number plates now and have been asked to do a tutorial thread, so here it is.

Step 1: Purchase a bucket of your choice of suitable size for the plate you want to make. I have found 5 gallon pails to be great due to the fact they cut easily, are inexpensive and decals stick quite nicely.

I found a couple pics on google.. GAry

Step 2: Drill a hole at the top and bottom to allow the blade of a jig saw to penetrate the wall.

Step 3: Proceed to cut the bucket using a jig saw. Remove the top and bottom portions being careful not to waste any material rendering your piece useless. Finish by cutting the bucket vertically.

Step 4: Transfer your design onto the bucket.

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa463/aballer1979/edit5.jpg

Step 5: Cut out your design. I have found just a good sharp pair of scissors to work the best.

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa463/aballer1979/edit6.jpg

Step 6: Apply the template to locate all venting.

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa463/aballer1979/edit7.jpg

Step 7: Cut all venting and mount holes. For this I use a 3/16" spur drill bit for the holes, then roughly cut the slots with an olfa knife, then clean the slots with a 3/16" dia. diamond bit and dremel, finally I remove burs with the edge of an exacto knife.

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa463/aballer1979/edit8.jpg

Step 8: When I'm done all of the above I peel of the templates and go over the slots a final time to make sure everything looks good.

Step 9: Apply your decals if wanted and enjoy!https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/152/bucket59c2bcbbad.jpg

Re: DIY - Mop Bucket Number Plate tutorial - complete with templates!!!

My thread was deleted temporarily due to my finished product showing a name brand and being considered an unauthorized reproduction. I do not encourage this in any way. That is why the templates I've provided did not show decals at any point. I simply want to help my fellow BMXer's save some duckets. You can make the decision of what graphics to put on yours.

Re: DIY - Mop Bucket Number Plate tutorial - complete with templates!!!

I could make one just need a good pic of the bars and some dimensions - maybe a rough idea of what you want it to look like. I could crank out a template for you in no time.

Even better if you can trace the bars onto a couple pieces of graph paper taped together - try to locate corner points at intersections of the grid. This way I can draw the bars almost exactly.
