+1 thats why you see minimal chrome offered today

Banned in Taiwan? My chromer in Nashville does an incredible job.

Yeah but it cost as much as the new Frame and fork for just a chrome job. My chrome guy gets $400.00 just for a frame.

Re: FINALLY new Trick Star has arrival thread

That is some fine Taiwan chrome there.

Back in the day Richard Hutchins would have a finish like that covered over in black.

When it comes to bad chrome the problem is usually in the prep work, and not chemicals used.

As far as price goes chrome shops are all over the place. I know one local shop that charges $300+ for a frame and fork and another that charges $50 to $75 and their work looks identical from what I have seen.

Re: FINALLY new Trick Star has arrival thread

The frames look so smooth and chinney though!  Wonder if the forks went through a different batch and got fugged up?

Does anyone's frames look like that?

Re: FINALLY new Trick Star has arrival thread

The heat treating process that forks go through leaves a "scale" that is very hard to polish properly before chrome....frames do not go through the treating process so the chrome comes out much better. Frame tubes are usually pre-polished before the frame is welded together, where the fork has to be polished as a fully assembled unit due to post weld heat treating. Not sure how HUTCH assembley works, but thats how it was at the BMX company I worked for

Yeah S&M forks have always been nice and their chrome looks great too! I had a set a few years ago and the chrome on the forks was perfect.

So why would anyone buy USA made frames and forks when they can buy Taiwanese for the same price? lol

Re: FINALLY new Trick Star has arrival thread

Just a lil heads up. Can't use front pegs on this freestyle bike. No room for em. My quick mock up. Still waiting on seat, brakes, and few odds and ends.

I'm just addressing the shoddy Chrome-process on the Fork . But if the shoe fits....

That's really a shame for you guys that really want to actually ride them with Pegs . Looks like someone didn't do their homework when it came to designing the fork . yikes

Re: FINALLY new Trick Star has arrival thread

That chrome on the fork is AWFUL. No pegs on a flatland Trick Star?? Looks like you need a old school Skyway peg that threads on to the axle. sadsad

Maybe he can ask his friends in Taiwan to bust out some special pegs that will work with his tight dropouts.

Hmmmmm thinking I may be happy I haven't ordered one yet....shitty chrome on forks of a $500 f/f set AND no way to run modern pegs on the front? hmm

Was super stoked to grab a 22" street version with FS forks but...

Very disappointed at this point. Could have spent $600 on better things

Has anyone contacted John yet bout the chrome and peg issue? Or sent him this thread?

Probably needs to start some damage control before this gets way outta hand

It stinks that you didn't get what you were expecting. Especially when you paid a lot of $ and you were excited and looking forward to building it. Bummer.

ecstatic about it, as you can see by the quick build. could have lived with the chrome but this peg thing is whats bothering me. and for anybody curious i tried 4 different brands of pegs. Snafu, Eastern, Stolen, and cult.

I said I'd cut him some slack personally , and did . But when you see the end product you have to wonder was a lot of the stuff that I and others said warranted ?
