Why is there no division between the original Hutch & JDB Repop stuff?

Another member made an interesting observation in the JDB XL24 thread.

If we have it with SE why not Hutch?
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/se_racing/   http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/se_racingcurrent/

To me it is an insult to the original company and those who own and collect the original bikes to clump these items together. There was approximately a 20 year gap in time where the Hutch name sat dormant. Should that not call for a division?

It would be different if the company was under the same ownership or if the company founder was somehow involved as a staff member/adviser but that is not the case at all.

If any company should show a division in era this is the one. Especially since there was no gradual evolution with the brand or ownership.

If we are going to clump real stuff with repoop fake stuff why not put these in there too: http://www.genesiscycle.ca/category.php?category=29

Genesis Cycle/Hutch is sort of like Fuji/SE racing right? tongue

If a member posts this 2014 bike called a Hutch Titan in the Hutch section will it be left there? It says Hutch on it just like a JDB bike.

I would say the JDB stuff is not "re-pop, fake stuff" so it is not a valid comparison.

If it is not original but made to look like the original then what do you call it? lol

I never checked but is Redline, Diamond Back, and Haro separated as well?

If not, I'm curious as to why SE was singled out.

I ordered decals from JBD years ago for a TS and they were WAY OFF from being close to OG ones.

Re: Why is there no division between the original Hutch & JDB Repop stuff?

Agreed. If we are using the categorization of the SE stuff to set the precedent on how all companies are categorized then this would make since, however due to the complexity of reorganizing every brand that somehow fits this description it would probably be more reasonable to desegregate the SE categories... For example GT would be classified 77-98 (Gary Turner ownership), 98-2001 (Schwinn parent company), 2001-present (Pacific)... And I am sure it could become even more convoluted with changes in co-ownership, region of manufacturer etc.... Seems a little to complicated.

Probably a bit excessive, but I am no EXPERT wink lol smile

Re: Why is there no division between the original Hutch & JDB Repop stuff?

I agree that there is definitely a difference between the two, or division if u will. The only reason why I would say there should be a separate entry or category is simply for reference sake. I mean, if this is a museum then everything submitted to the museum should be categorized appropriately.

I made the same mistake on a set of his Lil Hole Shot decals. They looked like crap and the material was not even close to the original. Wast of money.

Legit question because the others you mention are not split by change in ownership.  Never understood that.

I've never felt that SE needed to be split. All the info of ownership change etc can be provided on the brand description.
