Re: Pump track build

So, I needed to start getting dirt up to the top of the hill. The access is steep, to avoid further  damaging the Kubota, and do to the fact it only carries 1/3 of a yard I rented this.

About 300 trips later.....

I think I need to build a tree fort for the kids up here as well

Starting to reclaim the back yard, I will be putting steps into the new hill for sledding this winter.

Re: Pump track build

Sorry for the lack of updates. Been rebuilding the backyard and moving stuff around to keep the great Nag Monster at bay.... Hope to finish some retaining walls and loam next weekend (I am sure no one wants to see that) then hopefully start building berms the week after.

If I may make a suggestion (from experience). . . . build, finish, and ride one thing before you move to the next.  When you have heavy equipment, it's way too tempting to move a lot of dirt.   . . . And, I may be out of line, if so, I apologize, but don't cut any more trees, or if you do, be very strategic about it....   A trail "through the woods with jumps" is always better than so-called "tits in a field"--i.e. a huge clearing with some round mounds.

cool

Re: Pump track build

Not even close to out of line. I actually left as many trees that I could for two reasons. 1-Keep the dirt from baking in the sun. 2-Keep my pasty Irish ass from baking in the sun. big_smile All I have removed so far is all the Elm and Pine that generate low branches. Oaks and Maples got to live!

This track will end up being on a smaller scale then a full blown set of trails do to the size of my property. Just looking to make the most of what I have.

Re: Pump track build

OK, the last few weeks has been nothing but traveling for work. On top of that I had to get the yard graded out after the mining operation. I finally got that done including using about 4% of the rocks I dug up. Seriously is anyone wants rocks, I am your guy! Also moved the shed to its new home without dropping it down the hill.

With that to a state where I could leave it for a while I decided to bail from work early and start up top. Mostly I just York raked and de-boulderd. But when the kids got home we started putting down some dirt.

Re: Pump track build

Your kids are small, keep it simple so they can ride it. You can always make jumps bigger later. I would do a section or two that divides so one course can become 2 or 3. Like snow ski runs. I would also make it wide enough you could race side buy side on it perhaps for training if your racing. Invite people to come over and race with a two man gate. Heck 4 man if you have the room. Doesn't have to be a Pro electronic gate at first. Just a simple wooden gate till you are certain if you want 2 or 4 man or want to bother to run power or a generator etc
By the way your house and neighborhood look picture perfect. I'm sure I'm not the only one thats envious.
