Re: Anyone Else Morel Mushroom Hunt?

Yes, i love it. The good season is going to start in my area in south of France, and i'm lucky to live next to some great places. Can't wait, and i hope to do as well as last year.

Hera are some nice exemples of my favorites. Ceps and Caesar's amanitas. I use to to hunt them at the evening just before the diner.  Got these ones in less than an hour !

The ones in the first pic are very good fried with a bit of butter, garlic salt and pepper. They can get a bit mushy in cooking so once the water cooks out I brown them over high heat.

The second ones are about the best mushrooms you will ever eat. Perfect texture and nutty flavor. They are amazing on burgers or with steak. Pretty distinguishable with the bright orange color and hollow stem. The flesh turns blue/green when broken and exposed to the air...

Yes i know the ones in 1st pic, i prepare them the same with garlic and parsil. I can't tell tell how good are "mines", but if yours are better or simply as good as an amanita (caesar's one, beware !!) i'd be glad to taste them. We could make a trade ! lol

It's funny...my grandparents brought mushroom hunting with them from Europe when they came to Canada in the 1940's...there are varieties that they commonly ate there that are frowned upon here

Serious question, how do you know what is safe to eat? Some of those pictures would scare the heck out of me!

Re: Anyone Else Morel Mushroom Hunt?

Forgot about these...call them pheasant tails. Don't know their real name. Outside edges are tender and they work well in soup.
