1987 General Osborn Pro

To me, this is the bike that made General a REAL bike company.

In the 1980's, I thought that General Bikes were just half a step above dept store bikes until they signed RL Osborn and released this bike.  I was fortunate to buy this from the OG owner, and there's a long crazy story behind it.  Anyway, I own the bike now, and I couldn't be more proud.  It is mostly as found, I did have to add or change a few parts because the bike was incomplete when I got it.  But I saved and used as many parts as possible.  I will try to add a few more pics once I get it out for a ride or two in the spring.

Re: 1987 General Osborn Pro

Thanks for the compliments big_smile
After I got it cleaned up and rebuilt, I took it to the first annual Albe's show and invited the OG owner to come check it out.  He brought an autographed General tour t-shirt to display with the bike.  He wouldn't sell me the shirt though....but I'll keep trying tongue

Re: 1987 General Osborn Pro

I have one of those, but getting General stuff was pretty easy since I lived in NJ. I have "Stomping the States" and the white and blue one.

Hope you end up with it.

Ok, it might not be "Crazy", but it is long tongue
Short version....I don't do facebook, but my wife does.  A local guy that I don't know casually mentioned this bike in a facebook thread that my wife was on, she mentioned to me "is a general osborne pro any good?".  I basically forced my wife to send a message to the guy to ask about it, weeks went buy with no reply, but he finally responded when he found the message she sent (apparently there's like a separate folder or something that her message went to).  The bike was in his parent's attic, so it was a while before he had time to dig it up but we worked out a deal we were both happy with.  When I dragged it in to show my friend's at Albe's, Flip said "no way!!  I used to ride THAT bike!!".  Turns out he used to be friends with the guy I bought it from, and he borrowed the bike to ride for a summer after he broke his own frame.  Small world smile  Weirder part is that a year later I bought a hoffman EP on craigslist from someone who cleaned out a foreclosed house. That EP ended up being Flip's former best friend's bike....

Awesome bike man! If you view my bikes, you'll notice that they are all survivors. Should you ever decide to sell this bike, please keep me in mind. I would love to have it in my collection.
