Weird question about NOS buys (dead serious)...

You riders ever score an item you've always wanted and find yourself not so sure about breaking it open? No?

I have some Power Series cranks coming in and I find myself looking for beaten up ones. Just me?

NOS the virgin of the bmx world. If you hunt it down your choice to shelf of ride.

These cranks are still in the box from around 87 and have never seen the light of day. Should be interesting.

honestly depends, if you already have a collection of NoS stuff and have a display area for it in your crib, then by all means do it!

otherwise start building one, or bust those suckers open! winklol

Re: Weird question about NOS buys (dead serious)...

I'm a rider. Not a curator. Shredding is my business. Luckily for the collectors, I only ride post 04' bikes.

No disrespect. To each his own. That being said, if you plopped a dead mint NOS Hutch Judge in front of me right now decked out with the best Hutch parts money could buy, I would get busy on it without blinking an eye. (Ever since I bought a copy of Rad Rides I fell in love with the blue Hutch Judge and the Redline Prostyler).

Re: Weird question about NOS buys (dead serious)...

I have every intention of getting my whiplashes and decades back. Just something about this particular item in a box freaks me out.

Re: Weird question about NOS buys (dead serious)...

Do you have $200 to lose?

Just sell them and get some real nice ones for much less. No point in losing money just because of the principle of "bikes are meant to be ridden." There's really no need to take them out of the box, considering how few there are in that condition and how many there are already deboxed.

Re: Weird question about NOS buys (dead serious)...

I think I would honestly prefer some devirginized ones that are in good shape but HOLY CRAP they're hard to find. I don't ever see myself showing my bike/s but DO see myself pulling off multiple whiplashes and flail boomerangs like I used to. yikes

Re: Weird question about NOS buys (dead serious)...

Now I realize this is a lil different then BMX parts but for 35 years I was a record collector. I would buy two copies of an item. One to listen to and one to keep sealed. Then it dawned on me one day that its a shame to have all this great music sitting here never to be heard. Now it brings me great joy to crack the seal and listen rather then looking at boxes of records that just sit.

Enjoy them in any way ya like.

Re: Weird question about NOS buys (dead serious)...

What are you going to do with the new ones? Set them somewhere and look at the box as you pass by? Open them up and stare at them in the Styrofoam? Want to keep them for several more years and then resell them for more? The resale value is the only reason I could see for not opening them. If you wanted them to ride, ride 'em.

This bike may not be Old School, but it is entirely built with New and NOS parts The Frame and Fork (2000 K2 DMC) were NOS. The Snafu cranks I installed were new in their cool tin box. The Sun Four Play hoops were the last 2 I could find at the time. The Pegs, Seat Post and Clamp, Stem are all Odyssey GI. Before I assembled this bike I had a nice pile of parts! Now I have a bike I can ride! Parts are parts, bikes are awesome! Have fun and ride on!  cool

Re: Weird question about NOS buys (dead serious)...

Save the GT's in the original box.

Get a set of Primo's and ride those instead.

Hollowbite's are lighter that the GT's anyway, aren't they??
