Kuwahara KZ1 Movie replica Build

Hi Guys.

So I have a few bikes but it's fair to say I am a recent convert back to BMX, now age 40 plus I rode these bikes some 30 years ago. My young kids re-ignited my interest. So after buying and riding a few old bikes I decided to build the BMX i could only dream of as a kid. A Kuwahara. I never even saw one of these bikes on the street, only in the movie, but I was hooked.

The build is not going to be a replica ET production model, I want to recreate a bike as seen on screen. The bike I am leaning towards is the Haro/C Thomas Howell bike. I managed to get hold of a frame and forks, now I need to work out the parts required to complete the bike. Any help and advise would be great. Here is where I am, could be way off, but its based on a little research and some guess work.

Frame and Forks, these look right? Bought on ebay recently, still currently stateside with a buddy of mine, but will be here in the UK in the coming weeks.

Screen grab showing stem, and some literature, looks like the cheaper ET Replica KZ1 Stem.

I found this win stem, needs a gold anodised top, will get that done and refurb the whole thing.

Pedals, seem to match the screen shot too.

The seat is easy to find, but expensive it seems smile

Looking for help with the crank and chain ring, rear brake, bars and rims. Also, any more images of the paint scheme.

Thanks, Rob.

this is where i got to with my replica build. its not the bob haro, still trying to find out who rode this bike in the movie.

I tried to do it as closed to how Howie would have done it. the dark brown stripes are printed on a clear decal with the sandy colour stripes kept clear for the paint to come through. I had to wait for the decals to arrived to match the dark brown paint on the gusset.

now for the build.

If you're looking for factory correct decals, these ones on eBay are the closest to Factory correct you will find... http://www.ebay.com/itm/181591159515?ss … 1555.l2649

Those ones you have in the picture are totally incorrect.  I bought a set and they are not accurate.  You can mainly tell by the fonts used in the head tube decal, and 4130 decal etc... hope that helps.
