Re: my best ebay score!!!!

I don't see the problem, OP got a bike that he considers a score and is excited.... bike was for sale on the open market, he didn't swindle someone to get it, he paid the fair market value for that bike on that day and time. If you feel like the seller should have got more $ then you should have been bidding.... roll

Never Post a score before you have it in your hands.

It's your keep it or flip it- If that were me I more than likely would flip it, as it would help me pay for some races. (nationals are not cheap)

Re: my best ebay score!!!!

Where's PETB when you need 'em?

People for the Ethical Treatment of Bicycles.

My personal practice is to avoid certain publications of my personal activities.  It's your choice.  I find it slightly risky when dealing with people.  I sometimes post "find" threads....or maybe "latest purchase", but I don't think I've ever referred to a score....though I have one or two situations that some of you might consider a score.  It's just a practice of mine.  I'll never forget the thread where a guy was posting a huge massive score....more or less saying the seller didn't know....blah, blah....the seller looked kind of stupid.  Then after about 20 posts a newbie chimed in...."okay, I'm the idiot seller.  I'm glad you're happy, etc, etc".  See, I would feel bad for that seller having portrayed him in a way that would look naïve.  I like pretty much everyone I buy a bike from.  We swap old war stories.  ...I mean, I've had a really good time hanging out with sellers.  "hey come back here, let me show you my work shop where I have sprint cars, or whatever".  We even talk about the retail value of the bike, how to get it, etc, etc.  I just want to avoid that someone I made friends with is 'hurt' by my post.  Nothing wrong with what you did in my eyes TY, just sharing my personal practice.  You might find some conflict, but it might not bother you.  I have trusted friends on the Museum I share with privately my victories.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Re: my best ebay score!!!!

Everything I score is a potential flip unless its something I need. I always inform the person Im buying from the market value also. Sometimes they jack the price up a little but more often than not they dont care. Everyone has access to Ebay and Google and if they want to take the time, they can find the value easily. The person selling this Haro either didnt care and just wanted to sell it or he was an idiot. Bravo kid for snatching it up. Make some money. Thats the American dream. I hope you double your money.

Yawn. Who gives a shit what he is or isn't going to do with it.  If people feel that deeply about it perhaps they should just buy it and keep it in a closet for the good of the hobby????

I see bikes purchased here parted out locally and on Fleebay. And local bikes and parts
sold here sometimes reassembled parts sold as NOS completes.

best is when the parts are bought here and sold here for a quick flip. Or Ebay then
parted here..    class:(sad

Being a lying scumbag is totally different from buying a complete, selling the parts for what they are, and putting some coin in your pocket.  Thats been done here since day 1-if you're happy for what you got for the part why care...and yes I have sold a few parts cheap and they were resold-don't care one bit.

I'm not sure why I'm being quoted for agreeing with Thesega but I'm agreeing because anything can go wrong during shipping,  issues w seller( in general)etc. Etc. That's all! Hope you enjoy your bike Ty! I'm happy for you brotha!

Re: my best ebay score!!!!

I actually just now realized it wasn't the peanut gallery so I retract my statement.

All I'm going to say is, I don't have the disposable income that some of you have. I don't just have thousands of dollars set aside for my bmx interests. The only money I really use to build bikes is money I get from either selling an old part I have no use for or from getting a score. I'm not a guy that's going to part out a a survivor under any circumstance but if I find a 1988 performer for $100 and I know I can sell it to a friend that is into mid school stuff for more than what I paid, you bet your ass I'm going to do it. I can't count how many times I've bought a bike from somebody that was otherwise going to go throw it away.
