1997 Robinson Pro 24

"Debra Lynn"

Inspired by a 1995 SNAP cover featuring Charles "Amtrac" Townsend, this bike is named after my wife and was basically 19 years in the making.  These are perhaps my favorite Robinson graphics and are the same ones as on Townsend's cover shot.  I knew they belonged on an aluminum Robbie, and that that aluminum Robbie had to be a 24" since I don't ride 20s anymore.  It is a 24", but feels like a 20", which should make it an excellent choice as a race machine.
The other part of the story is that when I saw it on Ebay a couple of years ago, I noticed that it didn't have the traditional Robinson badge welded on the seat tube like USA-made Robbies used to have, so I and others wondered whether or not it may have been a team rider's frame from BITD.  I told my wife I wanted it, and she said I could pick it up on one condition -- that I name it after her!

For those interested, a shot of the non-drive side.  Notice the lack of a Robinson badge on the seat tube...

Man, thanks.  My appreciation of your props is all the more meaningful because with your collection of old school icons, I would never think that a mid school Al would even grab your attention. cool

Now, that's a lineup.  Truth be told (first time confessing this) I basically built the bike around the decals.  As mentioned, these are probably my favorite Robinson decals, and I knew I had to put them on an aluminum frame due to the size of the decal and the way they looked on Townsend's ride, then knew they had to go on a 24" because that's all I ride!

Thanks!  Yeah, the bike is a bit of an anomaly due to that and missing Robinson badge on the seat tube.

Have you figured out why there is no badge on the seat tube?  I just bought one of these on offer up, same as yours with the cantilever brake mounts too.

No, I haven't.  All I have is the ongoing speculation that it was a team rider's frame, but there's no hard evidence to support this theory.  Does yours have a serial number?  Mine does.  Please post pics of yours when you can.

Re: 1997 Robinson Pro 24

I'll probably build it.  Busy with work right now, but I couldn't pass on it when I saw it on offer up.  I have a 99 too and it has the badge welded on the seat tube, no cantilever mounts either but the exact same dimensions.

Re: 1997 Robinson Pro 24

I wish I could remember.  It wasn't much, which is why I angled for it.  This was back in the days when, with enough patience, vigilance, and quick fingers, one could watch an item for as long the auction ran, then snipe it at the last second.  That rarely happens nowadays.
