the vw is slightly faster in the 1/4 mile than the svt and im pretty sure the svt and stang are pretty close, so id say yes....the jetta has a CAI, stage1 chip and diverter valve...but nothing sounds like the stang

Re: VW & BMX What Gives?

VW's just rule!

They are not expensive to work on by any means. Parts are pretty much interchangeable on all the ones I own. Except for the VR6 Corrado. They are very reliable as long as they are properly maintained! Easy as heck to work on and as stated already the German engineering can't be beat! I am more into older stuff though with my 1992 Corrado being the newest Dub I own. Also in the VW community their is a real sense of brotherhood. Sort of like the BMX scene.

Currently I daily drive a 1988 16V Scirocco, very reliable nice looking and efficient!

I have owned a few older Mustangs and love them as well but the VW's are so much nicer IMHO.

Still I would love getting another 1968 Mustang Fastback. cool

Just my 2 cents.........smile

I have always been nuts about VW's.  I was raised in a Chevy household (hence the Camero in the collection).  My father always says, "where did I go wrong with you, boy?"  He clearly doesn't see what I see in these cars.  I will say one thing....if you are going to drive a VW you are going to need to be one of the two if not both:  rich and/or mechanically inclined.

Re: VW & BMX What Gives?

Hey dyno mike you stole my car! JK I've got a pg gli just like that but it's completly stock. My only complaint so far is the ridiculous amount of brake dust.

My dad used to work for VW/Audi in the 70's through the 90's. For me it is just a thing from my childhood. I would go the the Lanham MD offices and get to check out all the cool little cars and meet a bunch of cool old German dudes.

I don't really hate on any brands of cars except Renault but that's cause I'm a F1 nerd.

Still want a MK1 gti, a 16v scirocco and a g60 corrado. Dad had all of those as company cars back in the day. Only got to drive the raddo.

I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!

Re: VW & BMX What Gives?

my dad just got a VW Jetta (used, 2002), replacing his F-350... the 350 got around 17 mpg and with the jetta, he is averaging 57... its prolly the best car any of my parents have ever driven.. plus, its small and has heated seats and you cant beat heated seats for the wintertime!

Here's coverage from my club's annual Motorstadt show.  We have it in the VW headquarters parking lot every year.  The club is called MIVE, Michigan Volkswagen Enthusiasts.

Feel free to register and check us out.  Be sure to look through the member projects portion if you do.  There are some amazing builds in there.  Also, all of the site graphics went down a couple weeks ago, so they're working on version 4 of the site.  The majority of the threads are not visible to the public, so sign up.

I am a proud american , and i have always drove american cars, till i started driving 60 miles to work each way , so i coped out and bought a Honda Civic , Now that is a Good Dependable , good gas mileage car .... i got it with 79k and now it has 136k i have yet to even do the brakes ...  My 1st Honda has been more dependable then any jeep , chevy ,buick , dodge or olds i ever had ....

With all the money GM & Ford is loosing its no wonder , if i was to buy new i would hate to say it but i would be looking at Honda , Toyota !!!

Its no wonder the companys are closing factorys .....

+1  I have never owned any thing else but a honda/acura and they are the best cars in my opinion never have any probs with them at all.

Girlfriend's '99 4cyl. Jetta.. goes pretty good. I have an '88 Cabriolet, a '59 Beetle and a '73 Plymouth Satellite. I've owned tons of VW's and they are not that expensive to repair. Proper maintenance goes a long way... timing belts and stuff should be changed before they break, and buy good replacement parts and fix it one time.
