Re: WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON?

Got a sweet SR Tubular OPC from Chip at C4. Before he shipped it, I asked if he could powder it trans blue.

"Yup. Just $25"

I was so stoked. He did it the same day, and I'm going to mate it with this raw aluminum SR spider:

The chrome look nice for sure! I always worry about it peeling though. I’m not sure if they have a reputation for that or not but the thought of it keeps me away from them.

Seriously avoid chrome on rims. Unless you are obsessed with posing it is a bad call. Plating and the alu under the copper HATE each other, and there is nothing you can do to stop it reacting with galvanic corrosion and eating itself. It was always a bad idea, and will remain so. And for what chrome rims cost? yeah, totally not worth it. Polished is deffo the way to go and always was.

Whilst my Super Pros looked unbelievable when I got them new I can't even imagine what they would look like now, had they not been stolen. It is practically impossible to find a set that are not all scabby.

Yeah as above. The plating used can not even be put on the alu, because it would galvanically eat itself. So the only thing stopping that from happening is the copper in the middle, and it doesn't last. As soon as the two touch? it's eww city. And the only way to "fix?" it is to remove all of it, including the copper. And like I said, given they are by far and away the most expensive rims you can get (and the chrome used now is total shite) I would avoid like a dose of the clap. One very expensive ticking timebomb.

the key part you mentioned is todays chrome is shit.  you are correct on everything you said.  some brands seem better at it tho.  i have a set of early chrome araya 1 1/8 and a early 90s rhyno set with great chrome after all these years.  yet nearly every set of 7x or rb17    the chrome is shot.  the chrome on alienation runaways look great new but they scuff easier then plastic in fact they have a plastic like feel to them.  i dont live near the ocean or in very humid areas so ive had no issues of parts rusting or seizing even decades later.
