Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

Since starting to ride again at 45, I've wanted to relearn Hang 5's so bad but I psyched myself out too much. Today I decided to push myself and actually attempted to relearn them. It took me about a dozen attempts but I finally unlocked them again. I was actually surprised by how they came back so quickly.

The main thing that helped me was after about 10 times I told myself "You know how to do this, you used to do them without effort, just DO IT!" and the very next one it clicked and they got longer and longer after that.

Feels so good to do these again after 20 years!

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

I recently embarked upon moving across the country and the all consuming nature of the move really put a kink in riding time this summer. While getting settled in, I've been eying up a possibly good night time spot less than a mile away from the house. I started to get comfortable with backwards peg wheelies during my first session at the basketball court adjacent to JAWS Skatepark New Braunfels, TX. I look forward to making up for the three months of no riding with the much more mild winters TX has to offer not to mention I can't believe the lights at the park are kept on until midnight daily!

Nice riding..thx for posting..and now you are a Pro member!!! GAry

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

Went camping for four days. Nature hit a light switch and suddenly it's Fall! Came back and did a two hour riding session. Hang-5's are finally feeling really back for me. Feeling pretty good. This is about two months in after a twenty-year break. Hopefully soon I can stop using my twenty-year break as an excuse. ????

I notice you stand on your right foot for hang fives and peg wheelies but your brakes look to be wired "normal". Out of curiosity, what foot do/did you use for scuffing? Is it consistent with gliding in that you'd kick with your left foot or is it other way for scuffing, kicking with the right foot? If it is that you scuff and glide with different dominant legs, was it because you just went with whatever felt natural?

I use my right foot to scuff as well. My right leg is my dominant leg. I ride skateboards and snowboards "goofy" with my right foot forward as well.

It gets a little odd for things like doing a half lash into a steam roller as I kick out the frame to my right as that has always felt right and then I am doing a steamroller on my non-dominant leg. If I do the steamroller into a funky chicken it all works out, but if I want to keep gliding a steamroller I need to switch to my dominant leg. I used to be able to do that without even thinking about it but that is one area I am re-learning still.

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

I went back and forth in my head about entering the AFA Dream Run contest. My class (old's cool) is a 2 minute run. All classes are no editing, one continuous clip. Simple, right? I decided to go for it! A lot of hours filming over about 4 to 5 weeks, but im pretty happy with my run.

2011 Opsis..It was for sale for awhile. No one bought it. I put it back together...I like this frame because it has an older bike feel.
