Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

Right. I started riding again about two years ago.  It's tough to progress because (1) my kids keep me busy and (2) I tend to knock myself out a lot.

I tried the cruising around thing, and couldnt really get into it.

awesome thread matt!  I'll be 40 in eight short months from now.  God that's hard to say... Ha ha.

Been diligently working on some grind combos.  This thread will give me the motivation to hit the record button.

I'm mostly ride freecoaster park/ street.

"Progress" can be defined many ways big_smile  This is my third summer back into BMX, turning 41 in August, and I still can't even do a fakie, let alone any real tricks.  Dropping in on anything higher than the 4" quarter was a major accomplishment, and probably the only thing that got me to do it was I HAD to do it before my son and his friend that was riding with us that summer.

I had kids because all my friends grew up and I had no one to play with anymore.

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

Nice matt. Was thinking of starting similar thread. I just turned 43, got into ns street riding last May after watching an Animal vid. Blew me away what the kids were doing. Then I started checking what the ns bikes were all about. Race bike weight, but indestructible. So glad I gave it a try, never had so much fun. Got some vids to post.

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

Still love to ride. Cruising the neighborhood, racing the local tracks, hitting the launch ramp, sessions at Ray's. Any time I get to spend on my bike is cherished.

I'm not the raddest rider, or the fastest racer. This old dog isn't learning any new tricks. The old ones still make me happy. I think at almost 45 years old, just getting out there and doing it is "pushing it" enough.  lol

These are just some of the most recent pics...

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

I am closer to 50 than 40, so I suppose I fit in here. Although I don’t shred like some of you, I do ride often and enjoy every minute of it. I don’t do anything photo worthy (mostly small jumps off curbs or small manuals, ect) so no action shots. To me being on a bike (especially a BMX bike) is a way to decompress or work off some built up tension. My bikes are my hobby and riding and maintaining them is therapeutic to me. I am glad to have found this site and all the different types of folks on it! Good people here, and some great humor and drama! You can see what I ride in my bikes, the Free Agent and the Trek get the most use by me. Have fun and ride on! cool

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

I'm 43, I really never gave up riding but the time in between rides got longer and looonger.
The wife and I actually rode today and it felt good, even though my ass and knees didn't agree, lol.
No pics to show that are worthy.
I for the most part just cruise around, curb jumps wheelies and just try to stay active and keep my butt off the couch.

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

As I have said in other threads, I have used road biking and kettlebells for the last five years or so to maintain enough strength and fitness to teach and occasionally compete in a combat sport that I have practiced since 1987. I got back into bmx bikes in the early Spring of this year because I just don't enjoy riding road bikes. To me, when I hear the word bicycle I think of a bmx bike. I was heavily into bmx fandom from 1979-82, but before that kids in the neighborhood were obsessed with Schwinn Stingrays, and we all knew that a bike called a Mongoose existed that -if the rumors were to be believed- was indestructible.
If you enjoyed jumping ramps or racing your friends in the woods on your Stingray, your first sight of a mongoose with motomags just *blew your goddamn mind*. After I saw one I just had to have one, but my parents would not buy it; however, they did agree to get me a red Webco with Tuff Wheels because it was significantly cheaper. While that bike was also basically indestructible, it was NOT a Mongoose, and I was always bummed about not getting the bike I wanted.

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

I'm 51 and still riding, can't imagine ever not being able to ride. I ride street and park on my 20", most of the dirt jumping I do nowadays is on my 26" dirtjumper.
I raced forever and started out this season racing like usual, but for whatever reason I lost interest in racing this year. I turned 51 right before the season started and that put me in the 51-55 class, and it just wasn't the same. Great group of guys but there was no excitement there...I knew I would make the main whereas in the 45-50 class I knew I would have to work for it. That and I absolutely hate the transfer system, I feel it takes all the fun out of it. I'll stick to street and park and a little dirt jumping.

Re: the old guys who still want to ride thread!

Fast forward about a year and I was still heavily into bmx, so my Mom and stepdad agreed to upgrade me to a lighter, faster bike, and by that time there was a serious hot shop in my town. I ended up with a Torker. Then I started racing (occasionally) at the local track, but I was the guy who always got fourth in the main. I just could not trophy, and at the same time I was heavily into hardcore punk rock, so I sold my bike and joined a band. I also found bmx to be filled with too many All-American, upper-middle-class fagstix for my taste. I hated guys like Greg Hill and their endless desire for more, more, more. The freestyle guys made me puke even more. However, my love for the BIKES remained.

I think that was the key, to never stop wink I'm 42. I haven't ridden much the last few yrs, mostly building and dating tongue. The latter sucked up most of my time, and life roll But now I've been with the same girl for over a year and she loves my hobby!  So now I'm just concentrating on riding again. My balance is getting allot better on flatland. When u stop riding for a period of time it's all just a matter of getting your balance back. I wish I never would've stopped and just kept progressing all these years smile

Just over 46, but I don't feel like it. I have a 7 year old that just started racing so I get plenty of track time. Also enjoy messing around on the Sunday!
