1999 Gack 26

Guessing on the year. Any info on this frame would be great.

UPDATE: Finally built this one up (out of parts from the pile, so I can thrash it without worry).

First ride was a blast...24" top tube makes it plenty roomy.

Man, that's a really interesting frame. What's the story with it? Looks like 990 mounts on it. I always wanted a 26" with 990s (vs V brakes which I have some sort of inexplicable animosity towards). Thanks for posting. Very cool!

Thinking of building this one up....looking for suggestions on parts, etc.

What would you slap on it?

Re: 1999 Gack 26

I was just thinking about that after I posted.

You know, being a '99 model, and given the color of it and layout of the gussets and tubes, I'd probably go with a hard core mid-school Bmx look on it (fit for a big boy) rather than something more mtb or dj focused.

The modern dj stuff is so good, that I'd have a lot more fun with this as a midschool rider / cruiser that you could hit jumps or street on but also have some style for group Bmx rides, etc.

So I'd probably go with a rigid fork (maybe those beastly looking Marzocchis or pitch forks) and fbm bottle neck or primo casket stem, a 99er seat, some primo excels or power bites and then maybe some 4 piece bars. Probably be cool to get something Hoffman on it too, as a tip of the cap to that connection... Heck let me know if you ever want to get rid of it and I'll show you how I'd build it!

Really cool bike, man... How are you thinking about building it?

Re: 1999 Gack 26

Leroy, solid suggestions, thanks.

When I picked it up the intent was to build it with as many Gack parts as I could find, (hubs, bars, stem, fork, sprocket, etc)...so far no dice.

I tried contacting Kris through his old website (which teases the hell out of me by the way, lol)...but no luck there either.

Would really like to at least put a Gack fork on it.

I've read about a guy who raced one of these dubbed the "battle cruiser", but haven't found any pics yet.

I hear ya on the BMX build as opposed to DJ...def prefer to keep a BMX flavor on the build.

Re: 1999 Gack 26

That Gack website is a trip ("Last updated 2004")... It's interesting, I didn't notice any of the options listed as having 990 mounts (was looking on my phone though). But I'm guessing that there were probably a ton of custom options.
