Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

I picked this up from my buddy.  I didn't know there were Homegrown bmx bikes.  This was made in Boulder CO I think?  According to my research it was not made by Yeti since it is 6 series aluminum.  It is in great shape.  Any info appreciated!

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

Should be an overseas frame. Never seen that sticker on one of the bmx frames. The only frames I am aware of that were made in the USA were the Signature frames and the Pro Modified race frames. Oh and the earlier XS ENF frames.

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

It is not overseas.  It says made in the USA right on it.  I found another thread on mtbr I think where one of the guys at Schwinn even reiterated that Homegrowns were all made in USA, thus the name Homegrown.

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

Yes he would be right. But as far I know the homegrown line were mountain bikes only. You can go to Gene's Bmx and there is a wealth of info on this stuff.

Gene's BMX is pretty hard to navigate.  I couldn't even find a search function.  If you have some Homegrown links, please share them!

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

Something I found about the question marks on the homegrown sticker.

"The sticker on the seat tube with the question marks was because they didn't know what to call the aluminum yet. They had a contest and the 2001 had a different sticker. Those frames were the last Schwinns to be made in America. That frame was made in Colorado. Great frame!"

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

There is not a homegrown bmx. Its a 1999 pro stock 3 frame.

There may be some one offs in Colorado but every one off Schwinn bmx that s popped has something unique about it like different stays gussets ect. That's definitely normal pro stock even the color.

Collection Complete. If you want to see my actual bikes http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=633623. I stopped adding to MY BIKES because of hassle of uploading

HuffyRider87 claims I'm a 'seathole' because he low-balled me on a bike, claiming its worth nothing and 'just a Huffy' and I told his ass whats up. Just a Huffy you wanted, and dont have. LOL.

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

The color is bass boat green, which is a homegrown color.  I know for a fact that the Yeti factory made homegrown schwinn bmx frames because I have been there and they have one hanging from the ceiling. i don't think this was made at the yeti factory though, I think it was likely made in Oregon and assembled at the Yeti factory in Durango.

Not all Homegrowns were US made.  I think they stopped making the Homegrown MTBs @ '99-'00?

Thanks for chiming in Todd.  I think you are wrong about bone-stock though.  The cranks are surely not 1 piece.

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

I should restate that I know Yeti made schwinn bmx frames at some point, I just didn't know they were badge as Homegrown.  I saw 2 of them a couple of years back at Veloswap that were supposedly made by Yeti as well.  I will keep digging.  Todd, did you ever sell schwinns at your shop with homegrown stickers?

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

Advan,
Every Homegrown Schwinn frame was made in the USA.  This topic has been discussed ad naseum over at mtbr forums and other sites, and actual Schwinn employees have chimed in. If it was made overseas, it is not a Homegrown.

That bike still looks stock, didn't notice bikepedia listed 1pc...that's wrong. They came with 3pc (like yours), and, no, never had one come through with a Homegrown badge on a bmx. We sold both Schwinn bmx, and Homegrown mtb's.

Sorry, my research showed that bass boat green was a homegrown color.  I had never heard of bass boat green until today.

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

I read almost all of the MTB forum threads on Homegrown as well.  They are just as confused over there.  But I understood it as everything Homegrown 2001 and later was not made in the US.  In their catalogs, they list the Homegrown as US made up until 2000, in the description for each bike.  The US made bikes were either made in WA or CO based on the model.

In 2001, they list all of their Homegrowns as "Homegrown in the USA" Ride Tuned.

But, I am not an expert, for the record.

Re: Schwinn Homegrown Pro Stock Cruiser?

Thanks Advan!  I appreciate the input for sure.  I figure there are 2 possibilities.  It is a homegrown, or it isn't and someone put the sticker on themselves.  I bought it from the original owner, so I will text him now and ask him.  I thought the serial number might shed some light.  It starts with ACK.  How does that compare with the what you guys have seen?
