Re: How To Save Your Bolts & Nuts... Make them look "Minty" Again!!!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums and had a question about stem screws and couldn't find an answer on search.  I'm restoring an early 90s Dyno Nitro for my son and am missing the 4 hex bolts that hold the stem together.  I found some cheap replacements on ebay but I'm not sure of the length and thread size.  Any help?  Thanks!

Not mine, but this is the stem:

They should sell them at home depot, lowes, and other hardware stores.

Go to Harbour Freight, buy some Evaporust, all your bolts, nuts, etc will look like new in 24 hours and there's no danger.  It also will not remove paint so if you have OG parts (chains for example) that you want to remove the rust but leave the paint it works awesome.  Rinse the parts after you remove them from evaporust to neutralize the solution and you'll have rust free parts.

To keep your steel parts looking (and working) like new, be sure to treat them with a good oil like CLP. https://www.safariland.com/products/hol … 15337.html

It'll keep the rust away and definitely make disassembly and maintenance easier.

This works super well. Sometimes I let my bolts soak in a penetrating oil and that gets them decently clean with little to no work.

* pull apart
* degrease
* blast clean over months
* send to black oxiders or zinc platers
* get the tubs back
* spend a month sorting it all

Wow!  So when you say "blast clean over months".....as in, when you have time?   Do you do this at work or at home?

At any rate, that's great that you're saving all those pieces from the trash heap!
