Re: The Kink appreciation thread

I just received the care package through from Kink Bicycles this morning, for my little bit of input into their upcoming project. A couple of t-shirts, a koozie, carabina/spoke key, car air-freshener. That's what I call gratitude! The stoke is high! http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/221283/20190131_1026275c52d2f2ab.jpg
I can't wait for the stickers!

Re: The Kink appreciation thread

Heads up. There's a Kink dedicated Facebook page been set up a few days ago by one of the Aussie guys. If you're on the Facebook, check it out. Early days yet but hopefully it can get going. It's midschool era only for now by the looks of it. So heavy duty only! lolhttp://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/221283/screenshot_20190623-170023_facebook5d0fa2c2cc.jpg

Re: The Kink appreciation thread

Hey there, I'll be joining the Kink owners gang. Just ordered up a 2020 Kink Nathan Williams complete from the LBS, be ready by next weekend. Fell in love with the gloss raw clearcoat that also is supposed to change colors in sunlight. Can't wait!

Re: The Kink appreciation thread

Ah I was looking for this thread.  A couple additions to the Launch.

By the way Jeff (Brettweir89) This Launch is called Raw holographic, but is actually painted. I kind of thought it would have been just a weird clear over raw, so you could see the weld heat etc....but it's painted.  In hindsight it seems obvious now, but I missed it.

Looks like the Williams is actually raw.  Nice !

Re: The Kink appreciation thread

Who knows? Might have to install my uber rare Smut 1 seat on it. Likely though leave it stock. I'm stoked, realized after thinking I haven't bought a new complete bike since 2002. Everything has been used or new but built up in pieces.

The Phantom Lord and OG forks are finally on their way back to me after cosmetic surgery and dropout restoration. http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/221283/img-20190704-wa00005d1e3f5c32.jpg
Then it'll be going for powder coat. The closest I can get in terms of match is RAL 4004....

Got the 2020 Williams. First impressions... wheels and tires roll for days, really impressed with that. Geometry feels great. Brakes don't squeal, that is appreciated! Sparkles mixed in with the raw clearcoat look amazing in the sun.

Only observation, downside... compare the Williams (frame only) on the Kink site, to the frame on the Williams complete. What's up with that? Is there an OEM version and an aftermarket version of the same frame? The complete doesn't have the chain tensioners, anti-slip knurling, and the gussets are different. That's disappointing.

Thanks! I have the top tube decals but I'm going to have repop the seat tube one. I found the original artwork for it online. My friend will be able to scale it and apply the text so no biggie. It should be in my hands on Monday. I'll get some images of the restored dropouts, and various scape and dent repairs posted as soon as.

Bike looks great!   but yeah, WTH?  I think I'd be calling Kink on that one. I mean you'd think the Williams complete would use the Williams frame.

Re: The Kink appreciation thread

That’s pretty standard across the industry. Completes frequently use a ‘OEM’ version of the pro frame. Maybe same geometry, similar graphics. But many details will be different. Look at Sunday & Fit for example.

Thanks for the input. It really was the first complete bike I've bought new since a LeMond road bike in 2002! Over the years for whatever reason I've always tinkered around and built up bikes or bought used. I did write Kink and will see what they say.

That’s good to know. I noticed all of kinks frame only offerings seems to have tensioners.  Good info...
