Re: 1986 GT World Tour, Freestyle Tour, Pro Performer, Performer ?????????

framesets were all the same...components were the only difference

but the pro freestyle tours would have a later in the year build date and the world tours would have an earlier build date

Actually some of them didn't have 2 cable guides.. some did..

GT was all over the place in 86.

Lots of differences in the frames, geometry and top platform shape as well. It's like there gearing up the the big re-design in 87 and were getting rid of all the old parts as well as trying out some new ideas.

GTalltheway. I'm loving your frankenstein 86 GT. smile

yes, i will agree with chromey totally but those differences were not distinguishable (sp?) between the different models...there were definitely differences in '86 but none that tied them to a specific model...that is all i was saying smile

thanks.  I like the frankenstein refrence.  I'm acutally going to be parting that bike out I just bought an 86 freestyle tour so the "frankenstein world tour" has to go.

Actually one of the reasons I was asking about the forks is because the chorme ones I have for the world tour has to cable guides, I switched them for the blue ones because they had a pinch on them from someone over doing the bolts on the fork standers.  thanks again

Thanks dude, keeps me from spending money on it.

I am curious about a price on the H-bars, seatpost, seatpost clamp, and mallet stem.

Re: 1986 GT World Tour, Freestyle Tour, Pro Performer, Performer ?????????

I wish this thread was here a while back when I was trying to sell my 86. A few people insisted I was wrong about them having no distinguishments in the f/f & b's. Something about this subject should be put in the reference and research section so we can settle that arguement more easily from now on. smile

Can you ever really have enough GT's?

Re: 1986 GT World Tour, Freestyle Tour, Pro Performer, Performer ?????????

I do believe tha performers had trimoly japanese frames and steel forks although almost identical in shape as the pro performer, which was the chromoly ,american made frameset's name.differences in rake, cable guiding, and even leg width are noticeable when you get to see tons of these through time,as well as the frame which had steeper head tube angles, and a slightly taller top tube than the performer.at least that's what I think, and remember reading about in freestylin, plus I did get to have one or several,of each different type, and all I did besides school and riding was ogle with my friends over these bikes, and later with the pft,s,we were total gt nerds, guess some things never change!
