I'm almost 41 and this is my street cruiser.  It's a tank.  I call it my trainer.  Love the OS look and the newer geometry.

Re: This is for the 40+ crowd. What do u ride??

The last few years it's been Schwinn cruiser strandies, the older the better, but I suspect the King Sting I'm in the middle of will be a fav as I've wanted one since I was 10. Also raiding dad's box of vintage Campognolo spares for my '85 Cannondale... that bike rides like a Cadillac, but also decidedly not BMX wink

Re: This is for the 40+ crowd. What do u ride??

I have embraced the dark side.  My main ride for racing/training/having fun is a 2011 Standard 125R.

I also have a Firearms Texas Cruzer I use for transportation.

I appreciate the old bikes for historical, aesthetic, and nostalgic reasons, but I have no interest whatsoever these days in owning, building, and riding them.  Even my '98 GT will probably go eventually.

Strangely, when I was into road bikes, I was always a throwback: Reynolds or Columbus tubing, friction shifting, exposed brake cables, regular spoked wheels, and loose ball bearings.  I wasn't a collector, I was a rider, but I liked the gear on which I started out and just never felt a desire to change it.

I guess I'm not fully New School BMX in that I'm still sticking with a chromoly race bike, but I only have so many rides left in life, and I would never go back at this point.

Re: This is for the 40+ crowd. What do u ride??

I'm nearly 45. New to the forum. I'm amazed how many people are on here. I guess growing up in the 70/80s had a profound effect on us. Was a good time because it was a genuinely cutting edge time both in the style of the bikes and the riding.

Started on a Supergoose in 83 and went to an GT Performer in 86. Rode mostly vert. By a big margin the best bike for me personally during the 80s was the Trickstar. It had a much steeper head angle than every other bike and seemed longer in the middle as a result. So much easier to control especially over the Haro. I hated my Master, long at the back and short in the middle with a slack headtube. I had 6 Trickstars and cracked every one under the top tube where the little tube went.

The Condor was great when it came out because it was long in the middle but the head angle was slack, so I was overjoyed when I got my STA500 in 1995 - 21" in the middle, short back end and steep head angle. God's own geometry. What a fantastic bike to fly on. I notice that today's bikes although lighter are not massively different in angles.

Got a Barcode in 2002, and retired. Rode it last week for the first time since then. Its nice! I very much come from the old school but I actually think the bikes were awful in handling terms, and would never want any of my old school rides back.

I speak as a freestyler though - my best friend raced since 1979 and his old race bikes JMC and Robinson Race Inc etc are nicer.

At the track, my 2013 PK Ripper or sometimes the wife's 2012 Floval Flyer ( when she lets me tongue )

Around the hood with the kids or on a nice day which ever the old school ride I feel like that day.

I've taken the OS rides to the track a couple times but too much of a pain in the azz to get nice and clean again lol, that and the last time I rode the Robie at the track I discovered that old school bike just don't work as well with todays track design ( got nut slapped in the rhythm section yikes )

lol

My main all around street/park rider is a Failure Amuerte, this is by far the bike I ride the most.

At the track it's my SE Floval Flyer from Ed at PlanetBMX.

The rest of the time it's usually this beast, a Fuji Panic Air dirtjumper.

Re: This is for the 40+ crowd. What do u ride??

Im 44, love to still ride my childhood bikes with the kids around the neighborhood - my '80 supergoose and my '83 GT. But I couldnt race those things today, they just don't work like the newschool stuff does. The compromise... Knight retro goose, rides great and looks mean tongue

Re: This is for the 40+ crowd. What do u ride??

I love the look of some of the bikes you guys have posted. Some of the Old School rides are fantastic and of course the stuff I grew up with. I just don't do any Old School any more, they were great when I was 5'7" but now at 6'3" they just don't have any comfort at all. So I had to upgrade to everything with a 21.5" plus top tube. So I ride whichever I pick up first, Deviant, Ripper, Phat Jawn, it doesn't matter.
