Your thoughts?  just for fun!

That's not exactly just another Gold Plated BMX Bike, that is THE Gold Plated BMX bike, originally owned by Woody Itson, and now back in the hands of Woody.  That bike was GOLD Plated by Hutch BITD as a special gift to Woody.  I'm not saying it is THE Holy Grail, but I'm sure to him it is, and you have to respect what it is.

Hell Yeh! I do respect it, as i do with all BMX bikes. Even a Pro Thunder! Saying that, the The Gold Hutch is a trophy with all due respect, for Woody Itson. dont get me wrong, i'd take it!  but, i would sell it. lol   The "Holy Grail" i'd hand down to my kid.  Im thinking in the lines of the first known BMX bike ever.  Now that can be in any town U.S.A. or world wide for that matter. But to make it the Holy Grail, it has to have real history to the BMX world.  maybe the first production bmx bike/frame ever made. IDK.  but im not bashing anyone's view. peace and love.

Re: What is the Holy Grail of BMX??

I don't think there's just 1 bike that every collector wants.  Even among OS die-hards, there's no consensus.  That said, here's what I consider to be grails:

Torker Kickback - One of the last (and arguably coolest lookng) DTT frames that Torker built.  The only thing that even comes close to the same look would be a combination of a Hoffman Strowler and a Rocket X1.  And oh yeah, as far as I know, they were only sold in Australia.

Rocket X1 - Nothing has ever been built that looks like it.  Ever.  BB on the bottom of the DT...quirky for sure.  Extremely unique.

Raleigh Hyper Shock - As if the Electro-Shock and the Ultra-Shock weren't unique enough, the Hyper-Shock added 990's in the rear, and a Rl20II/Master style chrome/paint blend.  Way more difficult to obtain than almost any of its contemporary DTT frames.

It's like the man says, there's no problems...only solutions.

You know what would be ever cooler? Having all those bikes that are strapped to the roof of that bus lined up on display just as they were decked out when they were in that pic! Can you imagine what might be up there? yikes coolcool

A few I would consider:

The single top tube haro sport seen in the early ads.

The prototype str-1 with the twin bottom tubes running under the bottom bracket.

Other notable frames that are rare but attainable:

Round top tube ju-6

Skyway cruiser

Luggage rack cw

Anything nomura

Drilled brake bridge hutches

Jmc Andy Patterson

Re: What is the Holy Grail of BMX??

If you breakdown everyone's age , you will find the term " Holy Grail " is different from each time period . A guy that was 10 years old in 1977-1980 will definitely have a different opinion from a 10 year-old kid in 1987-1990 , or another 10 year-old in 1997-2000 . Whenever these threads are started very few take the time to ponder this point and unfortunately start arguing .

I was born in 1976 so pretty much every BMX Bike I lusted after were from 1985-1988 . I know some bikes are rarer than others but I used to see the ads for the MCS Mantis and think how bizarre and rad it looked . Another was the Vector Freestyler which looked so awesome in BMX Plus! Magazine . cool

That would definitely be on the top of my list. I remember yrs back when RL's hazard yellow RL-20II from RAD surfaced, that was really cool to see. Other than those iconic bikes for me it would have to be an Ozone. When those came out I don't remember anyone in my area having one and I always wanted to see one in person. Even today they rarely show up for sale.

Your thoughts?  just for fun!

I'd say Woody's OG Gold Trick Star is probably the most iconic "grail" bike of the 80's...I was a Racer back then but even to me it had drool factor...I mean seriously...a 24k plated bike when we were poor kids was just insane, and it was in all the magazines of the time.
I know there's a lot of copies out there, every time I see a knock off one, it makes me think of a "BMX low rider"...there will only be one REAL one, and Woody rode it
