2004 Haro Mirra Pro

2004 Haro Mirra Pro

**SOLD - but thought id leave it up for reference since its the only one on the site**NOS 2004 ( built late 2003 ) Haro Mirra Pro frame. All signs point to this being a U.S.A. made frame.

I am a fan of the American made Mirra pro's and Backtrail/Nyquist Pro's, but they are very hard to find. I was screwing around on craigslist one day and found what appeared to be a 2004 Mirra Pro frame in NOS condition out in California, unfortunately I live on the other side of the country. To make it even better/worse, it appeared to be a American Made frame, which they did not make. I and everyone else were under the impression they quit doing the U.S. made frames in 2003.  After a week of talking with the seller, during which I found out he was the original owner and he purchased it from Dan's Comp in late 2004 as a project and shortly after quit riding and it had set in his bedroom ever since, he agreed to take a paypal payment and to box up the frame if I had Fedex pick it up and deliver it to me. Its very nerve racking to send a wad of cash to some guy off craigslist on the other side of the country. and of course the suspense of waiting for it to be delivered almost killed me .. LOL. When it arrived I was extremely relieved to find it still appeared to be exactly what I thought it was, and after talking to some of the other more knowledgeable Mirra guys we have all concluded it is a 2004 American made frame. So far the only one I know of to surface in any enthusiast/collectors hands. This is the year the Mirra Pros went to a more new school flavor, with Euro BB, Small drops, integrated headset, and smaller diameter lighter tubing among the changes. This one is Haros SG Black color, the first year this particular black was used as far as I'm aware. I am currently in the process of collecting parts to build this frame and will be riding it. No carpet Queen here. My goal is to build it with all Haro and Premium ( owned by Haro and their parts were used on Mirra completes from 2004 on, the year Premium started ) NOS or A+ condition parts from the 2004 Era. Preferably as much "made in U.S.A." stamped stuff as possible. You can check out my build thread, the link's in my signature, and so is the link to my Mid-school Haro thread. I think that about covers it, except to say that of course this is my favorite frame/bike/project to date, and im extremely happy to have found it and gotten it out into the light of day. **and yes, if you thought you noticed something, the headtube badge is ever so slightly off center to the right a little, im not sure whether to try to "fix" it, or leave it as is. My thoughts for now is to leave as is considering its a factory mistake and adds character and a little bit of extra "one of a kind" to this already extremely rare frame. Also, forgot to mention, when the frame arrived I found the seller had included the original Dan's Comp bill of sale which he had kept in the box with the frame all these years, as well as the packets of Dan's Comp stickers and the head set they sent it for him as well. I will be adding a pic of the Bill of Sale in the comments section as well as more pics of the frame/bike before, during and eventually after the build process.
** EDIT - after more research I have found there are some more small but noticeable details that differentiate this frame from the Taiwan made frames.  U.s. frame does not have the "M" symbol on the rear drops. U.S. frame does not have the lip around the edge of the BB shell like the Taiwan frames.  U.S. frame does not have the indents in the chainstays for crank clearance like Taiwan frames. the serial number placement and format is different on the U.S. frame. the downtube intersects with the BB shell much lower then the Taiwan frames, leaving a much smaller gap between the downtube and rear lower wishbone on the U.S. frame than the Taiwan frames.  Ill post pics to illustrate some of this in the comments section
UPDATE - have since sold but im leaving this up since its the only one on here. I have also seen at least 2 more since i sold this one. Both in black as well.

Re: 2004 Haro Mirra Pro

I have been thinking about tires and haven't made my mind up yet. I have a build thread here for it http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=550928  .. any ideas/thoughts/opinions are welcome. I did just score some NOS whitewall ms3's but im leaning away from those for it, theres no other white on it, all black and chrome. im actually kind of thinking about multi-surface 4's to be honest. really have no idea yet though.  Frazza, I am sure ill be asking for some pics and/or measurements soon if you don't mind. id love to check some stuff against my frame.

Re: 2004 Haro Mirra Pro

figured id illustrate some of the differences between this frame and the 2004 Taiwan frames. for more info check the Midschool Haro thread here http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.p … 21117&p=28  , particularly page 28. Below is pics from another members 2004 Mirra Pro and my 2004 Mirra Pro. notice some of the differences. The BB shell on the U.S. model is smooth, no ridge around the outside edge. Also notice the much smaller distance between the downtube and rear wishbone intersections on the U.S. frame.  The U.S. frame also appears to not have the raised "M" symbol  on the rear drops or the indents in the chainstays for crank clearance that the Taiwan frames have. One last indicator is the serial number format, for the 2003-2004 Mirra Pro U.S. frames the serials seem to all start with a CIC configuration, the Taiwan made frames are usually MP or stamped Mirra Pro.  This has been confirmed by comparing to several 2004 Mirra Pro Taiwan made frames from other members. Again, this is the only 2004 U.S. frame Mirra Pro to surface that any of us know about. Of course their has to be others out there, so if you have a 2004 Mirra Pro please take the time to look over your frame and see if you have the much rarer U.S. made frame.  Of course, the stamped aluminum headtube badge is a strong indicator also, but there not always intact so this should help anyone trying to I.D. whether their 2004 Mirra Pro frames are in fact U.S. or Taiwan made. Regardless of where your frame was made though, these are extremely nice bikes, and if you have one you don't want anymore please hit me up. Im always interested in picking up another. Anyone that has any more information on these frames also, please contact me through P.M. or post directly on the Midschool Haro thread linked above.

Re: 2004 Haro Mirra Pro

From my research the “cic” frames are the over seas ones. There was far more us made 04s over here. There’s much more detail on the us frames . I forget his name but a member had got in touch with a Haro Engineer who was knowledgeable on all the frames and he confirmed that and the vin numbers as well as location of the vin #. I’m not saying all “aftermarket bike companies “ are 100% legit, when they want to cut corners to save money they will.
On the 03 models some over seas companies were making them with the brakes under the upper rear rail (which is a good idea in my opinion) but there easy to spot. A few have made it over here to the us.

Re: 2004 Haro Mirra Pro

**edit** always finding out new info! Ok so 2000-2003 mirra pros were mainly made in tawain with the exception of a few made in the USA for pro riders such as Dave Mirra. Their bikes were always a little different than what was sold to the public. After 2003 all manufacturing was said to come from tawain.
I have seen over sees knock off versions of the tawain models as well. CIC on the serial was always a good indicator on the pre 04 bikes 2002,2003s to see if they were tai frames. I know for a fact Dave Mirras 03 was a USA made with serial on the rear right drop out nothing under the bb, and the head tube was thicker and the bezel on it was slimmer than the rest! I know the guy who has it now. Also know who has his 02 grey model with the trimmed rear drop outs.
So much info I never knew!
