I've been dying to try a free coaster forever. And now there's more and more companies making them I mite just try one but I ride street pretty hard so I'm unsure how well it'll hold up. Anyone on here know? Are they hard to get used to? I've always ridden a cassette.

Most of todays street coasters are designed for just that.  They hold up just fine.

To anyone that wants to get the feel of a coaster and cannot try someone else's, remove your chain. Roll back from a bank or a quarter.  Lotta people that try mine don't like the uncontrolled feeling of not pedaling backwards while fakie'ing.

Beats investing in one only to sell it at a loss on ebay two weeks later or have it sit in a corner in the garage.

Oh ok cool Thanks,I'll try that sometime.

Re: Freecoaster fans!!!

I've been riding a Oldschool Suntour Coaster ...Parts are stupid cheap...I can take one apart and put it together blindfolded ..(litterally!)
draw back is the weight...but riding my very lightweight KHE Paris III alittle weight in the ass is OK with me!.

i just got a sweet deal on an alienation v2 and i cant wait to try it out! its on my everyday bike, so i'll give my opinion after a few sessions later this week and over the weekend.

Let me know what you think on the slack adjustment.  If the slack moves at all from being an end axle adjustment over the washer system.

i have had plenty of sessions on it  now. not just flat, some light street and park. i just got home from a late night session at Ramp Riders bike park. fun night!

walribco is correct, locktite is necessary for the adjustment screw. i rode it for several session messing with the slack before the locktite, and the screw was constantly coming loose causing way more slack than i like. since i put the locktite on, its been awesome! hasnt moved a bit. so far i have no reason to go back to the nankai.

Re: Freecoaster fans!!!

New item seen on The Merged.

http://themerged.com/2dbmx-freecoaster/

Damn this is super rad. We just got sent a link to this new Freecoaster manufactured in Buatan, Indonesia by a rider owned brand called 2DBMX. We don’t have that much info at the moment (we cant read Indonesian sadly) but it looks like it uses a CNC’d alloy shell and a friction based system (KHE, Federal, Cult etc.), but slimmed down much more than anything else out. The hub also uses a 9t driver and is available in RHD or LHD with both a 14mm heat-treated cromo axle or a female with 10mm bolts.

The Male version weighs 585g and the female is only 470g which is considerably light for a freecoaster. Where as KHE style hubs pull the clutch into the shell to engage, this hub pushes the clutch into the hub a lot like the old Stolen freecoaster did. Whilst the design looks neat, I’m skeptical as to the durability of the smaller diameter bearings in the hub and driver, and whether they can hold up to the extreme lateral forces going on inside a freecoaster.

Re: Freecoaster fans!!!

No offense to you directly.

I do have a alienation front wheel I received in a trade, wasn't told it was alienation but gave er a go. Bearings in the hub blew out and they never touched pegs, ridden by my girlfriend only. Rims fine. Before they blew I timed it in a spin for over 9 minutes. I'd buy new bearings but I don't want it happening again.

Are you the same Micah as from Expendable 3(I think it was that video) who just destroys that rail?

Re: Freecoaster fans!!!

Yep Im the large fellow from expendable 3. I don't take anything personal on here at all. I only asked because I find you to be an intelligent person with the same outlook I have on bikes. If you want me to mail you free bearings, let me know what hub it was. Sounds really, really strange to just have bearings blow out like that.

Re: Freecoaster fans!!!

Send me a pm of a good email to reach you at. ill pull the wheel outta the closet. Take some pics of the wheel. Maybe you can help me identify exactly what wheel it is.

Bracket(mod) was in witness of my pissed off surprise when I pulled the bike out for my buddy(Phishfarm) at one of our rides and the front hubs clicking like a civ.

Re: Freecoaster fans!!!

Ok guys! I tried one once and hated it, it ghost pedaled all the time and took 3/4 a revolution foreward to engage. I am wanting to try it again. What do you guys suggest for minimum slack, 3/8 axle and 48holes?
I bought a KHE (reverse?) used in great shape that has 14mm axle and 36 holes with a 9t sprocket I would swap for a good 48h 3/8 used one. PM me if you are interested.

I need to go back and read this thread all over again and start looking!
