Re: Hutch Hi-Performance BMX

OK I apologize for coming off strong , I THINK ITS GREAT someone has taken the time and money to bring hutch back ...

BUT are u doing this PRIMARILLY so people dont give u sh*t on the DEAD ON MATCHS ??? Which are allready considerably driving authentic prices down (cages and clamps ).. and it will continue to as long as they are ORIGINAL DESIGN ...

Hutch Decals / Cages we all know ur doing now.. BUT give a better discription as to what ur intentions are ...
Is there gonna be retro aerospeeds now with a tiny little R on them that can be chromed right over ....
Please understand my concern as i consider HUTCH one of my TOP bikes and a asset to this sport  !!!

I WOULD HOWEVER LOVE TO SEE A RETRO HUTCH JUDGE WITH 990 BRAKES  SET UP AND SOME NEW STYLED HUTCH RETRO DECALS .....( kappa style )

I think it would be dope to have a RETRO HUTCH but i think it should be kept just that a RETRO !!!

BUT from the looks of ur cages and decals they are DEAD ON MATCH'S are the frames going to be ??

I guess in a NUT SHELL are u doing what KAPPA and SUPERCROSS has done and made exactly that a RETRO , or will u be doing ORIGINAL DESIGN like what Tobin is doing with VDC , FA & GHP ?

I have seen what the Clamps alone have done to OG ones cost . and would hate to see this happen to the rest of HUTCH ...

Good luck on your project John, I hope it works out good for you.  I really enjoyed my years at Hutch and would really like to have a slightly modernized trick star myself.  Keep us posted, Woody.

Awesome!  I would love a modernized Judge, since I'll never be able to afford an oldschool one.

Finally! Someone understands why I am doing this. Yes, I'll make a little money along the way, but the real enjoyment for me would be to see the hobby grow with people who can own and enjoy something that they may not have been able to otherwise.

Thank you. I only claim to know the race stuff. I think it's safe to say that everyone would probably go nuts if you had strong influence in any new product development. I am all ears. The option is yours.

Hey John, Good Luck!! This is GREAT news !!!!! oneluv1979, I think your taking this WAY out of context. He OWNS, he nots borrowing, and YES you are being rude! Tobin is doing what he is doing WITHOUT having ownership of anything! You sound like one of the guy's who dont want to let the other "Kidds" play with the toy's, look at the MAJORITY John, you have our support!! Some people say things out of GREED, or they simply dont like to share the "TOP" of the Mountain. Again Good Luck and I hope all turns out well. I will be watching, I cant wait!!

Welcome to the site Woody. I was watching your tale of what REALLY happened to the gold Trick Star just last night, before I watched "Joe Kid" for the 50th time. And I agree that if John is primarily into the race stuff, your input on the freestyle side of things would be awesome for all of us!

Cheers,
Greg

Re: Hutch Hi-Performance BMX

Hey John, I would be happy to talk with you about what I think would work and then you can run it past the others here if you like.  Let me know the best way to get in touch with you.

To everyone else, thanks for the welcome.  William sent me the link to this place and when I read the post about a possible Hutch revival i thought it was a great idea.  I think there are some really positive ways that things can be done to modernize a trick star without losing it's identity.  It would make for a much more ridable bike to today's 30 and 40 something part time riders like myself and yet still be very reminiscent of the bike they rode 20+ years ago.  I also think this would help to protect the integrity of the OG Trick Stars and would help more to support the collector market than to hurt it.  I think in the end that is pretty much what everyone wants anyhow.  Thanks, Woody.

onelove - i dont think you are being greedy or even too rude, you would have spent thousands of dollars on your hutches without a doubt. as for the millions that have been spent community wide on HUTCH bikes and components. John will make  MINT because the name hutch sells its self, he does not need to do any fancy advertising or marketing or anything except drop his URL in the forums becase of the legacy and hutch already has.

people need to remember that they are not buying the hutch that was made 20 years ago that was clearly awesome. They are buying repoped parts that will have the stigma of repoped SE Bikes parts.

RETRO is the way to go (like the 2007 rippers) NOT REPRO like the cages and decals that you are already making!

i think most people here would agree!

thanks smile

There is a certain mystique in getting a BMX that was manufactured in the USA, there was for me looking across from the UK anyway. For those of you in the USA I suppose that translates to a pride in a homegrown product. It definitely adds to the attraction. Collectors will still have their own original parts regardless, aren't your own original parts from back in the day the only parts that really matter anyway? I have a few nice collectable parts I've got recently, but they're not really "mine". The only way they can become mine is if I put them on a bike and ride them. Sorry, getting off topic smile

that is a good point but i think the thing about reviving hutch - to me anyway feels like John wants to make LOADS of cash out of it. It will also take the excitement out of collecting Hutch gear... but by the same token. if John decides to keep the parts made in the USA, makes retro and not repro.. then it could save us who collect hutch bikes. lets say he makes the hutch grips that are similar to the orig ones but clearly different and they only cost $20 then that would make sense instead of collectors paying $600.

RETRO NOT REPRO smile New tech using the old school style.

Again i hope im not coming off bitter, im a cool guy  , but it seems your MOVES are very much like CROOKED LAWYERS and want to rape every penny out of something that really WAS and SHOULDNT be yours at ALL !!!!

Cages and Decals were not anough for you ??? GREED

Oneluv, I understand where you are coming from, but, he owns the company, he's taking on the risks and now can do anything he wants with it.

- ulrich: fair statement, risk is pretty big however people paying $3,500 for any kind of cranks is outrageous. i would take the risk of reproducing these! hehe

Actually its threads like this that you get to see the REAL reason why people get into this. Do you collect for the "Love", the "Hobby", or is it because you are investing? As far a my comment, its an example, I didnt directly call you a Kidd. Im a Grown Kidd, so if someone called me a Grown Kidd, it wouldnt bother me a bit. I hope he Repops ALL the Hutch stuff, I have alot of Hutch stuff also, you think your the only one who owns Hutch Stuff? I could care less, I collect to build, to ride and enjoy so if he repops, I dont care, its not for my retirement and I dont do it as an investment!!!!!!

Re: Hutch Hi-Performance BMX

RETRO... That is exactly right; John has the rights and would be entitled to manufacture exact RETRO items... It seems to me that out of decency and respect for the trademark and collective value, he is modifying the design a bit to keep the OG untouched.

This is a whole new ball game, I'm positive it will have a great return and don't foresee that in any way it would affect any of the collectors or the high value of OG items (SE PK Ripper retros are still going for $ 699.00 don't they?).

For what is worth, if John can bring this venture to a high proficiency level (Manufacturing, Marketing and Merchandising) and is able to obtain 1st hand input (Such as Woody's), we will have the opportunity to revive something really magnificent for many of us.... Possibilities are endless.

Thank you John...  Hutch Welcome back.

Re: Hutch Hi-Performance BMX

this is great.  John best of luck.  Woody, glad to have you here-always a fan of yours.

Whatever you do please do not revive the Trick Star II

Any chance that these pretty reinventions will be affordable?

Once again great initiative on your part to make your hobby your career and life.  Did you acquire any old stock with the purchase?
