Did I just find a PANDA Pro-Am 26 Cruiser?

Hi Gang,
This is just my third post here and first to the Name It Forums, so I will start with a brief intro:

After 10+ years messing with vintage road, track and cyclocross bikes, I am finally returning to my roots as a product of suburban SoCal in the late 70's-early 80's.  I have been restoring mostly older Italian race bikes (as well as racing road and cyclocross) for years so while I am no stranger to the process, I am relatively new to the world of vintage BMX.

For what seems like ages, I have been scouring the planet for a pair of old school cruisers to build up for my girlfriend and myself.
This weekend I stumbled upon an unmarked 26 cruiser in need of some real TLC.  In my limited research (pouring over these boards, this site, etc) it appears to my untrained eye to be a PANDA PRO-AM.  I've seen reference to both the Raiders and Pro-Am Replica Cruiser as having the extra stiffening tube.  Can anyone confirm if this is in fact what I've scored?

Re: Did I just find a PANDA Pro-Am 26 Cruiser?

Can't seem to embed the pics so I'll just provide a link to my Flickr:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ciclidevotion/

In the pics are a couple of detail shots that show consistencies with other Pro-Am cruisers I have come across: the "twin plate" chainstay bridge shape, the loop tail and drop out shape, the brake bridge, etc.

The brake bridge seems to have been "ground down" by someone trying to make room for a bigger tire. D'oh! I am not sure what the best course of action is here.  Since I will be rebuilding the bike as a "rider", does it make sense to just clean it up before powdercoating or rechrome?  Or would you suggest that I make a new bridge and have it welded on?

Re: Did I just find a PANDA Pro-Am 26 Cruiser?

That seat clamp area is going to be a real problem, I'm afraid.  Think I can re-shape it to get it back to round, file smooth, ream, etc?  Or between the brake bridge, splayed seat clamp area and rough chrome, is this a lost cause?

Re: Did I just find a PANDA Pro-Am 26 Cruiser?

Any tips for banging that splayed out seat cluster area back into shape? Should I just put an old post in and "massage" it a bit with a ball peen hammer? I will clean up the slot and top of the tube before powder coating...

Re: Did I just find a PANDA Pro-Am 26 Cruiser?

NEVER NEVER use a ball peen hammer on a frame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!       lol         A dead blow would be way less aggressive and wont leave marks and dings in the metal.

Anybody in SoCal know of a good powder coater to handle this hot mess?  Do I need to get it stripped or blasted first?

Re: Did I just find a PANDA Pro-Am 26 Cruiser?

Cool score. Looks like a Pro-Am Raider for sure. They are mild steel frames, not chromo. This may be good info if you are asking around for repair quotes.

Re: Did I just find a PANDA Pro-Am 26 Cruiser?

And the seat tube keyhole on these Raiders have an unusually large gap.  The welds can also display less attention to detail when compared to the US manufacturing from the same company.

Re: Did I just find a PANDA Pro-Am 26 Cruiser?

Any thoughts on re-chrome VS powder? I'm thinking economy here, as this will be a "rider" and not a total concourse restoration...
What might I expect to pay for a re-chrome? Anyone have a good chromer in the LA area?

That ain't nothing but surface rust, you can clean that off with an overnight soak in distilled white vinegar. The rust will wipe away...

Or you can carefully rub the rust spots off with some WD-40 and some 0000 steel wool. It's gonna be a rider anyway right?

I'd save your money and just clean it up, build it, and ride the piss out of it! That thing is legit as is! cool
