Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

They were way ahead of their time back in the day putting out some radical designs/concepts yet very effective stuff, I've gotten to know them personally and his roots are in freestyle which led him starting his own brand Fishbone! I've got pics on my site. cool

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

Come check us out on Facebook where we are looking for other Fishbone owners to come in & join & share their pics and where you can learn about the rich history that lead to the spawning of the brand. Old school roots/that has nothing to do with Mongoose brand despite what people thought. cool

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

Here is the link to us on Facebook   https://www.facebook.com/groups/518441281546660/
Fishbone founder Jackie Yu started Fishbone Freestyle BMX in 1995-02 and like I stated earlier he rode for GT & Haro in the 80's which is what laid the foundation for the Fishbone brand in 1995 with his first patent which was the Fishbone X-UFO Extreme rotor but here in the United States most are only familiar with the 1st generation Ninja & of course the Big Ass but there were a couple of others that we here in the U.S never saw such as the 2nd generation Ninja's as well as the Kong FU, but if your on Facebook then I have left you with a link to come join us and share you pics with us and check out a lot more photos from the 80's era...cool

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

Them are known as axle turn pegs, similar to the Big Bone pegs and are made of 6061 T6 Aluminum, then there are the Hammer Head pegs which I'll see if I can't post a pic on here in awhile out of my catalogs that I have? cool

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

The Fishbone Raw bars came with the hole already drilled in them which were made specifically for the Straight UP stem but if your running another type of bars you will have to drill a hole in them for it all to work. wink

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

(***throwing temper tantrum***) I want one NOW Mommy, I want, I want! I'm holding my breath until I get it, see!!???

I always drooled over the big A and the Kong. I'd literally have begged, borrowed, stole or kill for one... I am currently trying to find one, see my signature? big_smile I see them on ebay from time to time, but I got burned on one about 2 months ago for $500 for a "complete". The kid shipped me no joke, a Mongoose Ace in bright orange with the mail box letters on it saying "fishbone". No joke. He used a pic of a real one too, then scammed me and closed his account. He had a 99.7 positive feedback too on like 5700 sold items. Now I'm anti-ebay unfortunately, they didn't do enough to try to help resolve the issue... f-em

Big ass or Kong Fu, message me if your selling one or know of one, please. NOS or rusted and busted. I don't care as long as I can refinish (own a powder coating shop). I will buy cash, trade bmx bikes/parts, or powder coat for a frame, frame/fork and/or sushi bars, or a complete roller.

Bad-Ass bars are drilled.  Dunno if they're the same as "raw" bars that carguy mentions, but you can't miss them.  They're the only 10-piece BMX bars ever made.

p.s.

being "anti-ebay" is like juggling anti-personnel mines--at least when it comes to trying to locate BMX vintage/rare parts.  Scammers are out there--doesn't mean that the 99.9% of vendors who are legit are something to ignore.  You can try AdHunter, Gumtree, Yakaz, etc...but you still aren't going to get around the "Sight-Unseen" person-to-person transaction that will be required for coming up with something like Fishbone parts.

And oh yeah, consider shipping from overseas.  Sometimes you'll either find a better deal...or it's the ONLY way to locate something (like a Torker I'd been wanting...)

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

I agree with ya and can't argue what I said as stupid, I should have worded it better. I just still got the bad taste in my mouth over losing $499.95. I'm not really anti ebay, I'd just prefer to do business elsewhere now for larger/higher priced items. Unfortunately, even setting your eyes upon something physically still has drawbacks, and still has a scam or con potential. People get straight up robbed in person over craigslist deals. Going to buy a $10000 engagement ring for $3500 cash, some people will still show up to a dark alley to meet an armed thief,  or buying a "still sealed" ipad that turns out to be a box with a floor tile in it. Or more commonly known, buying a POS/lemon car. That sh*t happens multie times daily unfortunately. I just assume from now on, buying from a reputable member, dealer, or business that is known for good deals, service and recourse if needed. Sometimes it's worth the extra $ to do so.

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

well if you're willing to try again...there's a few on the bay right now:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Fishbone-RA … 27d8b10495

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-FISHBONE-BI … 4d139e1d44

if i were shopping for fishbone...now's a pretty good moment to grab some parts.

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

Wow, that sux to hear about your misfortune. Some of the more rare Fishbone stuff is due to that after late 98' these items didn't get into the states, but I at one time had 6 of their Kong FU frame/forks sets and 2 of the later made Fishbone Ninjas but currently working on another Big Ass build. Plus there were a few of their Bad Ass bars that came pre drilled but only the one after 99' I believe, I've had a couple sets but they were not the pre drilled ones. wink

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

I had bough a big ass bitd from dans comp. was my first new frame purchase, think i was 14 or so at the time. First thing i did was cut the peg bosses off the drop outs. Aluminum pegs and street riding didnt work out. Rode it for about 3 years then kept with the big ass bike style and bought a chromoly pork.

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

Bumping this.  FYI, from what I can tell, fishbone actually made 3 types of handlebars.

Sushi Bars:
http://bmxmuseum.com/forsale/20120111_19.10.18_blowup.jpg

Bad-Ass Bars:
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab209/carguy3171972/BadAss.jpg

Raw Bars:
http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r627/mixfx/null_zps22f67c6c.jpg

Both the Bad-Ass bars & Raw Bars came drilled through the clamp tube.  They also both came with either blue or red decals (from what I can tell).  The pair I had on my Zippo were actually Raw Bars.  I think (but I'm not positive) that Bad-Ass bars were minimal sweep, whereas the Raw Bars were zero sweep.

I have never ever seen another pair of Raw Bars with blue decals, but mine had them.  Maybe I should try and get them back from my nephew....

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

Nice pics by the way I haven't been on in awhile but on the red & blue decals on the Fishbone bars, they depended on what model they were intended for by the way... cool And hello to all you other Fishbone owners.... wink

Re: Tell me about Fishbone bikes

If only they made purple decals.   i noticed that the red and blue decals are different designs though, so i wonder about just being for different models.  maybe different years?  idk.

any ideas on modifying handlebar sweep?  i would love to have me 3-degree backsweep raw bars.
